Well, have you all noticed that something is missing? Well that is because I've been giving
this a lot of thought and I always like to think about whether something is causing me hassle,
whether it's worth the hassle or whether it is worth letting it go. We kind of need to talk
about this logically. So for many years you have all probably seen me go on my coffee journey in
minimalism. I have tried everything. I had the gooseneck kettle pour over. I discovered I didn't
quite like that. I used to have loads of different coffees on here for doing the drip coffee,
for doing my own grinding my own beans and things. I just decided that it created in a small kitchen
too much clutter. So the easiest thing for me I discovered was actually having the aluminium
Nespresso pots. I even did a YouTube short about it showing everybody, particularly everybody that's
not based in the UK, how it is possible to clean the bottom of the aluminium out of the coffee
grounds, even reusing the coffee grounds if you want, and recycling this aluminium pot. They're
not made of plastic, they're not single-use plastic, they're aluminium. It meant that I could recycle
them myself. They do do a pod back scheme with Nespresso but if you don't trust that because
you're a highly environmentalist person or eco-friendly and you don't like the idea of the
carbon footprint of people having to come and collect them to take them away, you can recycle
it yourself in the UK. We can put aluminium in with our regular recycling that is collected
fortnightly. It was never a problem for me. I considered it to be pretty eco-friendly given
that I usually only have one of those a day, if that, because actually about three days a week I
go out for my daily coffee and I try to only have one a day in general. So really I was having four
of them a week. They're tiny and they're recyclable. I didn't think it was a problem but
on every single video where people see my coffee machine in the background or I happen to pour
myself a coffee because this was my way of doing a coffee, I would have people going,
that's not very minimalist, that's not very eco-friendly. Oh minimalist but she's got the
single-use plastics. No, I don't have single-use plastics. I just got sick of answering those type
of comments but then if those comments weren't answered there would be this ongoing debate about
it and as somebody who actually cares a lot about the environment and does my best for the
environment, I choose to not even run a vehicle because I can do that because I live in a town
centre whereas there are lots of people that live in a town centre and still choose to have a car
even though they may not need to because they may not work elsewhere. They actually work and
live in the town centre but they might just want it for the joy of driving. That's totally each to
their own but I do my little bit to try and compromise and do better for the environment
where I can as best I can but I kept getting judged for this. Now I agree with some of you
out there that are going to say, you know, don't give a ---- what other people say, we all know that
you're doing your best but I actually got to a place where it felt like it was taking more of my
energy to explain all the time about these coffee pods so much so that what I've actually decided to
do is I'm not actually just letting go of my coffee machine but I am letting go of having to
defend the fact that I have a coffee machine with aluminium Nespresso pods and not single-use
plastics every time I use it in every video that I make that shows it. It felt like it was taking
more of my energy than it actually would be to just make the coffee in another way.
So guys what I have actually been doing for the past couple of weeks is putting my coffee machine
away so I can get used to living without it to see whether I would really miss it. I have attempted
this before and ironically what I missed about it before was being able to make the coffee in my
vlogs and things and yes using it as b-roll and things. You know we're often thinking about that
as video creators as much as the drinking of the coffee itself because I tried all these other ways
of making coffee I actually decided that the thing that might work best for me other than having a
coffee machine the Nespresso machine and I'm not gonna fork out right now on an espresso machine
because what is the point if we might be moving soon that will probably be in my future. I have
my eye on my forever coffee machine when I move and it's one that's all made of concrete.
I believe the brand is called something like Azra I can't remember it I'll insert the name of it
here but that is my dream coffee machine that hopefully one day I will have and that does
involve doing your own coffee grounds etc frothing your own milk but for now I need a cheaper
alternative that doesn't use these so I can let go of that part of my life that takes up all my
energy and is so draining so I think I'm going to go to having a cafetier. I used to have a french
press for tea leaves ironically but never used to use it for the coffee and although I love the
idea of a mocha pot I know that I would get annoyed with cleaning that out all the time
I feel like cleaning out a french press is a little bit easier than a mocha pot so as I was
saying that is what I've been doing for two weeks to see whether I miss it and I haven't missed it
so we are getting rid of the coffee machine so ironically these videos have been filmed a little
bit out of order this is why the coffee machine is gone and now you will know kind of reversely
where it has gone and it does definitely free up more space everywhere and I'm always now when I do
declutter trying to just be even more minimal and essentialist a big factor for me that has made me
be able to declutter more recently and more to the point want to declutter more is that I'm
constantly trying to save time and be time efficient and I am a true believer that having
completely clear surfaces makes it so much easier to keep clean and that is a real big incentive for
me and you know there are some people that sometimes that watch my videos and say now it
looks sparse and barren I don't think it fully does because I do keep the odd thing like a nice
fruit bowl albeit it's only got two bananas in it at the moment but that is our fruit bowl
we have a little veg hammock in the other corner we have one little plant still and actually the
monstera plant is just behind you guys now because I had to move it from the window ledge because the
blinds were being a nuisance with it so we do have plants and fruit in here which I think still
gives it an element of warmth even though it is sort of extremely minimalist I am letting go guys
of the hassle of explanation because it's weird but although throughout my youtube minimalist
journey I've begun to care less and less what people say people questioning the things that
are perhaps most important to me can be a little bit irksome and that's one thing that I'm not
prepared to put up with so I am letting go of several things by letting go of my coffee machine
I'm letting go of the coffee machine it means it will free up my surfaces and give me more time and
make it easier to clean it also means that I will have more space I'm letting go of the coffee pods
as a result of it and even the extra time it does take to recycle them and I'm also letting go
obviously of the coffee pod holder but most importantly I will probably save myself a whole
load of emotional stress and clutter of having to explain myself all the time and I know I don't
have to explain myself but because it's a real concern of mine environmentalism I feel it's the
one last thing that I feel I still have to explain and I don't want to so that is what I'm letting go
of for a true stress-free minimalist life hope you've all enjoyed this one and I would love to
know in the comments if there is anything you guys have let go of that is more for the peace
that it gives you that you know it's just not worth it if it's causing you that amount of hassle
see you all in the next one bye
