The 37-year-old Yu Menglong had 27 million followers on social media and a 10-year career without scandals.
Friends say he was friendly and easy to talk to.
The sudden news of his death on September 11 shocked both the fans and the entertainment world.
Video clips circulating on the Internet are said to show Yu's last moments,
where one of them is supposed to imagine him hanging up and down from a window, screaming in pain.
The case received global attention after reports claimed that one of the perpetrators
was the illegitimate son of a prominent Chinese politician, Tsai Chi,
who is a member of China's highest governing committee.
Online discussions exploded in China and among Chinese-speaking communities around the world.
The story has led to over 2,200 billion interactions on the Internet,
but no official media or industry personalities in China have publicly commented on the case.
Even the wife of a prominent media giant in Hong Kong reacted during a live broadcast on social media and wrote in the chat,
this matter must not be discussed.
In the midst of the general uproar, the Chinese police finally carried out a statement on September 21,
where they claim that Yu died in an accident while he was drunk.
Apart from that, the details are still unclear.
The statement also stated that three alleged rumors were spread.
These rumors include the claim that Yu had been lured to an immigration party,
subjected to sexual abuse and driven to suicide.
Other claims that circulate suggest that Yu's nails should have been pulled out,
that his stomach should have been inflated and that he should have been thrown from a building.
But the most controversial claim, that Cai Qi's illegitimate son should be involved,
was completely ignored in the police statement.
The authorities' handling has also aroused public outrage,
and more and more questions the circumstances surrounding Yu's death.
For example, why the participants at the party waited to vote on the alleged rumors
until after the police had issued their statement, when they had previously chosen to remain silent.
And why Yu eventually jumped to his death from someone else's home after the party.
The registration of Yu's studio two months before his death has also aroused serious questions.
The studio confirmed in the beginning his disappearance and published a statement from his mother.
But the information shows that the studio was registered as early as July,
which questions the authenticity of the statement and the information that was left.
Ordinary people who have done their own research,
believe that they see similar patterns in other deaths among Chinese celebrities
linked to the same entertainment agency as Yu.
Now people in China, who independently investigate the case, focus on some central claims.
These include reports that Yu was infected before his death,
and that he may have had a USB memory containing evidence that the red elite,
allegedly used Chinese celebrities to launder money.
