Concrete Curtain House | A Poetic Architecture of Light and Shadow
Concrete Curtain House by FGR Architects is an architectural exploration of rhythm, privacy, and poetry — a tranquil home that redefines concrete as both structure and sculpture.
Inspired by the metaphor of a folded, pleated curtain, the design expresses a unique duality: strength and softness, solidity and lightness. The rhythmic repetition of concrete columns creates a play of light and shadow throughout the day, blurring the boundary between architecture and art.
Located in Australia, the residence rises gracefully amid a diverse suburban streetscape. Rather than standing in opposition to its surroundings, it responds with calm composure — an architecture of the slow reveal, where privacy and openness coexist.
Inside, light flows through large operable glazed panels, courtyards, and skylights. A serene palette of travertine flooring, green quartzite stone, and soft lighting creates an atmosphere of refined luxury and timeless calm.
Every element — from the nautilus-shaped staircase to the Seafoam Ocean-Waves quartzite kitchen — embodies craftsmanship and care. The home balances modern performance with poetic expression, proving that even concrete can feel alive, tactile, and deeply human.
