The Curious Cloud
High above the earth floated a small fluffy cloud named Cora.
Most clouds liked to spend their days drifting lazily,
puffing into shapes of rabbits, ships, or castles.
But Cora was different.
She was always wondering,
What lies beneath me?
Why do rivers sparkle like silver ribbons?
Why do trees sway as if they're dancing?
And what makes people laugh?
Every day she watched the world below,
her curiosity growing like a balloon ready to burst.
One breezy morning, Cora whispered to her friend,
The wind, please, can you carry me closer to the earth?
I want to see what's down there.
The wind swirled around her, ruffling her soft, fluffy edges.
You're a brave little cloud, the wind replied.
Hold on tight, I'll take you on a journey.
And with a whoosh and a spin, Cora drifted lower and lower.
The rooftops grew larger, the rivers sparkled brighter.
And for the very first time,
she could smell the sweet scent of flowers carried up to her.
Cora's first stop was a sunny meadow
where children ran with laughter ringing like bells.
They were flying a bright red kite,
letting it dance higher and higher.
The kite twirled and tugged and below,
it brushed against Cora's misty edge.
The children gasped.
Our kite touched a cloud.
They clapped and laughed with delight, their eyes shining.
Cora giggled, though clouds don't usually giggle.
She felt warm inside, realizing she could be part of their joy,
even if just for a moment.
The wind nudged her along until Cora hovered above a forest,
tall and green.
The trees stood like guardians of the earth,
their branches swaying gently.
Cora leaned closer, listening.
The rustle of leaves sounded like soft voices.
They're talking to one another, she realized.
They're telling secrets, stories, and songs.
She lingered, letting their whispers wrap around her like a lullaby.
For the first time,
she understood that the world below had conversations of its own.
If only you paused to listen.
As she drifted beyond the forest,
Cora saw a little garden.
The flowers, once bright and cheerful,
now hung their heads, thirsty and tired.
Oh dear, said Cora softly.
They need a drink.
She thought for a moment, then gave herself a little squeeze.
Tiny raindrops tumbled down, gently pattering the petals.
The flowers lifted their faces, drinking eagerly.
Their colors grew rich and bright again.
Reds like strawberries, blues like the sky, yellows like sunshine.
They swayed happily, as if bowing in thanks.
Cora's heart swelled.
Even a small cloud like me can help, she whispered proudly.
The wind circled back, wrapping gently around Cora.
It's time to return, he said.
Together, they floated higher and higher,
until the world below looked like a patchwork quilt of green fields and sparkling streams.
When Cora rejoined the other clouds, they gathered close.
What did you see?
They asked eagerly.
Cora's eyes sparkled like raindrops in sunlight.
I learned that the earth is full of laughter, whispers, and colors.
And even a little cloud can make a big difference by caring.
The other clouds nodded,
their gray and white faces glowing with pride for their curious friend.
The end.
