Disnep Moral Fables presents, Aesop's Fables, The North Wind and the Sun.
One bright morning, high up in the sky, the North Wind and the Sun were talking.
The North Wind was very proud.
I am the strongest, he said loudly.
I can blow so hard that trees fall down.
I can make people shiver with cold.
The Sun smiled gently and said, but I am stronger.
I shine warm and bright.
My light makes flowers grow and makes people happy.
The North Wind did not believe the Sun.
Let's have a contest to see who is really stronger, he said.
Just then, far below on a dusty road, a traveler was walking through a beautiful green village.
The man wore a thick coat because it was chilly outside.
The Sun and the North Wind agreed that whoever could make the traveler take off his coat
would be the winner.
The North Wind went first.
He blew with all his might.
Whoosh!
The wind was so strong it bent the tall trees and lifted leaves and dust into the air.
But the traveler did not take off his coat.
Instead, he held it tighter around him to keep warm.
The harder the North Wind blew, the tighter the man wrapped his coat.
After a while, the North Wind gave up.
Then it was the Sun's turn.
The Sun began to shine softly.
Warm light touched the green fields, the little houses, and the traveler's back.
The Sun's light grew brighter and warmer slowly and kindly.
The traveler started to feel warm and comfortable.
He smiled and opened his coat, the Sun shined even more warmly.
Finally, the traveler took off his heavy coat and carried it in his hand.
The North Wind looked at the Sun and said, I see now that you are stronger than me.
You did not need to blow hard or scare the traveler.
You were gentle and warm, and that made him take off his coat.
The Sun smiled kindly and said, Sometimes, being gentle and kind can do what force cannot.
Moral of the story
Gentleness and kindness are more powerful than strength and force.
