Partain/Benesh vs. Ehlers/Wickler - Pool Play Highlights | Newport Beach 2025 #BeachProTour

Our 10th elite stop of the year, and it's here on USA Soil in Newport Beach, California. The sun is shining. It is windy here. Here in Newport Beach on home soil. Lefty knuckle poke from Andy to get things underway. Everything high, everything hard from Niels. Keep it on. Miles. Miles cross court. Dig from Vickler as he waits in the middle. Little step close out wide, and Vickler wrapping it to the sideline for the kill. Good ring out. What kind of serve, what kind of set is going to be required to keep their team in this one? And then another baby dropper. What a rant from Andy. High pass from Ehlers. Miles with the dig. Miles overhead. This ball a little bit tight. Play at the net. Nice touch there from Niels. And Niels trying to go down the line, and he does, painting it right on the sideline. Low pass. Andy out of the middle. Andy going to wrap it back to the line, and a net violation. And Niels wrapping it. Sharp angle. Same thing for the Germans. Two straight clean sweeps against Brazil and Chile. Chance for the bye here on the line. Again, Clemens hanging, hanging. Short serve to Ehlers, pushing this pass. Clemens puts up a brilliant set. Overhead. Nice touch, but covered from Clemens. Miles moving to the line for the dig. Chance of transition, and Miles is perfect, wrapping it over and around. Niels overhead. Sharp angle. Another perfect dig from Partey. Can he chip to the line? Vickler there. Clemens hanging, swatting it down the line. Came back in 2024. That was in Ostrava, where they got a win in two straight sets. Otherwise, it's been all Germany in the last two meetings. Lefty knuckle poke over deep. Good pick up from Clemens as he chugs to the middle of the court. Good cut shot peel dig from Andy, and it's a little bit of chaos here. And looking for the backhand flipper. Pass from Niels. Inside set. A little bit inside. No problem. The ball will just go out of bounds. Short serve to Niels. High set out wide. To the line. Miles is there. Chance to go up three for Partey. Not yet taken. Good dig from Vickler. High hand swing over the head of Clemens. He's serving 20. Third set point. German's been fighting it off. USA need just one here. Through the block and down goes Andy Benes. So, excellent timeout for USA as they right the ship. Trying to side out when they needed it most. Zero. Start of set number two here. Andy, inside set. Quick swing down the line. Too easy for Andy Benes. Hand setting from Clemens Vickler has been precise. Niels high wrap to the line. Quick option. Full layout dig from Vickler. Chance in transition. Back to the high line. He goes. Behind the line serve. What a pick up from Vickler. Wrapping to the line. Tomahawk dig is good from Partey as he creeps in. And Partey puts it away. Niels overhead. Niels to the line is good. And feeling a hit was coming. Niels doing a good job wrapping it to the line. Set for Miles. Soft, cuddy is good. Short ball. Quick set to Andy. And Andy again. Andy. Serves pressure on Niels. He has seen the line share a ball. And finally a block there for Andy Benes. It's been a little quiet up the net. Right back to Niels. And Niels sneaks it under. Andy inside. Right back to that cut shot goes Andy Benes. High up and down ball for Niels. He's going to poke to the middle. Pokey save for Miles who sends over a sky ball free ball. Tight ball at the net. And that's one from Andy. And that is exactly why for Andy. 9-10. So a three-point run here for USA out of the timeout. Across court. Look what I found says Niels on the cover. Oh, goodness me. Niels Ehlers with a magical cover and then a perfect high line. Quick snappy there for Miles. The optioning has been a little quiet. 12 serving 13. Tight ball to the net. Absolutely bounced from Vickler. In this one, 20 balls away of Niels. Just seven to Vickler. So looking to get involved whenever possible. Play at the net. Nice pick up from Clemens. Chance to transition. Going to be a free ball the way of United States. Set tempo out wide. Dig Clemens off the net. Andy, a chance to transition. Going to poke deep to the corner. This one's still alive. Oh, and a brilliant little fake jump set and tap down. Nice to see the adjustment here, the improvement here for them. Vickler. Jump serve wrapper. Unbelievable serve from Clemens Vickler. But that just goes to show you how windy it is down here. Clemens overhead. Chip to the line. Good touch. Nobody up for Benesch. And Benesch with the 180 swing for the Germans. Partain. That one is not missed. Line to line. Niels has to chase this one down. Oh, my goodness. That one is in the court. Line judge calls it out. Good job putting it in a good spot for Andy to get a good set. Trouble here on this pass. Nice set for Vickler. Unbelievable from his knees. Going to push this one to a third and final set. Tight ball. This one's still alive. No, it is not. The tap down from Niels Ehlers is good. Trouble on the pass and side out from USA. And it is the Germans who set number three for these squads. The back and forth battle. And it's going to start with an ace on the float serve from Vickler. And he's been mixing it up from the end line. Creative serving here from Vickler. Partain. That one wiggles through the block, ricocheting off of both hands. And finally, Ehlers with a smile as he comes back to hug Clemens. Can USA find a pass here? Is he done? Andy trying to go low line. Excuse me, Niels. The change up from Vickler. Unbelievable. Vickler continuing his service pressure. The cut shot. Vickler has seen it once before. Chance of transition is taken. Ehlers Partain trying to put a little of the Jedi magic on that serve. Niels again. Niels with that quick swing. Finish cross court. Off that left hand of Niels for the kill. Andy cut shot. That has been his bread and butter in this match. Wide lefty knuckle poke is blocked from Niels. As Ehlers gets blocked number three to wrap up this match.
