In 1845, the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror took off from England to find the Northwest Passage in the Canadian Arctic. Two years later, the ships and crew went missing. The Admiralty sent out one of the largest search missions in naval history, and since then, many bones pertaining to the officers and crewmen have been found by searchers and archaeologists. In this episode, I explore the archaeological analyses (DNA and bioarchaeology) of a mandible belonging to one of the officers of this lost Franklin expedition: James Fitzjames. #archaeology #madamarchaeologist #archaeologist #archaeologicaldiscoveries #archaeogem #archaeohistories #archaeological #dna #dnanews
