We're going to answer the question,
Wo wohnen die Deutschen?
which means, Where do German people live?
Let's first listen to a short dialogue
and we will hear the key phrases we will learn in this lesson.
Wo wohnen die Deutschen?
77% von den Deutschen wohnen in Städten.
15% von den Deutschen wohnen in kleinen Dörfern.
Es gibt 79 Großstädte in Deutschland.
Einige Städte haben mehr als eine Million Einwohner.
Sie sind Berlin, Hamburg, München und Köln.
Let's first learn how to say what percentage of people live in towns or small villages.
77% von den Deutschen wohnen in Städten.
15% von den Deutschen wohnen in kleinen Dörfern.
Prozent means percent and vonden means of the.
So 77% von den Deutschen means 77% of Germans
and 50% von den Deutschen means 15% of Germans.
Städten means towns and we add the N to the noun because it's in the dative.
Kleine Dörfern means small villages and we again add the N to the noun because it's in the dative.
So these sentences mean 77% of Germans live in towns and 15% of Germans live in small villages.

Great job, well done.
Now let's learn how to say how many cities there are in Germany.
Es gibt 79 Großstädte in Deutschland.
Es gibt means there is or there are.
Großstädte means cities.
So all together es gibt 79 Großstädte in Deutschland means there are 79 cities in Germany.
Now in the previous lesson we saw Großstädten as the plural form of cities
and this word ends in N as it's in the dative case.
In the nominative and accusative we use Großstädte without the N.
So do keep this in mind.
Okay, so let's now do a speaking practice of this sentence.
Es gibt 79 Großstädte in Deutschland.
Great job, well done.
Let's now learn how to say how many residents some cities have.
Einige Städte haben mehr als eine Million Einwohner.
Einige means some and Städte means towns or cities.
So together it can mean some towns or some cities.
Haben means have and mehr als means more than.
Million is a cognate and Einwohner means residents or inhabitants.
So this sentence means some cities have more than a million residents.
And as we heard in the dialogue, examples of cities with more than a million residents include
