Santorini is not an easy port to get into. Ships are often at the mercy of the local boat union to work as tenders, but if they say it is too choppy, they will cancel.

The port is getting fussy now as it is swamped with some of the richest tourists from some of the world's richest countries. It now only allows two cruise ships in a day, and there is a size restriction. Take water, in fact, when you see the prices, you may wish you'd taken a grab-and-go.
