ARIZONA Destroyed Today! Flooding Mud Debris Flow Swept Away Homes in Metro Phoenix
In a catastrophic turn of events, torrential rains swept across central Arizona on September 26–27, unleashing flash floods that devastated communities, claimed at least four lives, and triggered a state of emergency in Gila County. The historic mining town of Globe, nestled between canyon walls east of Phoenix, bore the brunt of the deluge, transforming overnight from a quiet desert enclave into a disaster zone littered with debris, propane tanks, and shattered lives. Globe recorded 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) of rain in a matter of hours—an amount that overwhelmed drainage systems and funneled water rapidly through canyon channels into the heart of the town. Four fatalities have been confirmed:
Three victims were found in Globe—two inside a submerged vehicle and one outside, swept away by floodwaters.
A fourth victim, identified as Ander Polanco, was discovered in Scottsdale, pinned beneath a walkway bridge after his vehicle was caught in eight feet of fast-moving water. Hazmat teams from eight agencies—including mutual aid units from California—have been deployed to assess and contain the threat. Residents have been advised to shelter in place due to the risk of hazardous materials in the floodwaters.
