As early as 6000 years ago, humans were living in the vicinity of Liye Town. During the Qin Dynasty, it served as the seat of Dongting County. In June 2002, a significant discovery was made: over 37,400 Qin bamboo slips, also known as the Liye Qin Bamboo Slips, were unearthed from a massive ancient well in the ancient city of Liye. This batch of Qin bamboo slips significantly surpasses the total number of those previously discovered, filling a historical void in the Qin Dynasty. Experts have acclaimed it as "Xi'an Terracotta Warriors in the north, and Liye Qin bamboo slips in the south".
