Early in the 17th century, the first production of porcelain was initiated by the Korean potter Lee Cham Pyung, who was brought to Japan as a result of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's campaign in Korea. He discovered porcelain stone at Mount Arita Izumi in northern Kyushu.
