We headed out for a weekend of camping with friends and had a wonderful time sitting around camp, catching up with each other, and eating lots of tasty food. Little did we know this was to be the last camping trip our cat, Benny, would be on.
Well look at this we're back together again and about to go on an adventure
to see a whole bunch of people we haven't seen in a while.
So one of the best things for us this weekend is that our friends have come up during the week
and gotten some sights. So we can just show up on a busy summer weekend and get a spot no problem
because we're joining them. And the other great thing is that we're here at Harmon Lake where
we've been before and they got the exact same sights that we were here with Hannah and Andy.
You want us to back right in there? Perfect. Awesome. Jay says he's an expert parker
and he's going to do this on the first try. One, two, three.
Oh my gosh. Cinnamon buns and carrot cake donuts. So you may actually recognize this site.
This is exactly where we were when we came up with Hannah and Andy and it's probably the best
two sites in this entire park. So now we're here with other friends. You may remember Chris and
Emily. You may remember Dave and Teresa. It's a little bit windy but otherwise the weather is
perfect so we're just going to enjoy. I really like Dave's paddle board. It's better than mine.
It goes fast. You look a little windblown actually. Both of you. Your hair.
Look at these here. We've got puffosas. So what is that exactly? It's a samosa filling
in puff pastry. We make them at the Rolling Pin Bakery in Hope. Oh they're so good. And Dave and
Teresa were able to heat them up for us. We could have but it would have taken longer. They have a
microwave. A little more convenient. They smell incredible. This is me trying to put up the awnings
quickly because it's starting to rain and it's only the second time I've put this on.
Seeing things like it seems to be going well seems like courting disaster doesn't it?
Do you need to put the poles in first? We are filming so it'll be great.
Do I need to what? Put the poles in first? No. No that part doesn't match. Okay.
There's a little bit of give to that running board when you step up on it. Is that bad?
It has a bit of give. Okay. Step two was step one. Mel really should have done this.
Well no there's there are poles that go across this way to give it like
come on out. I think she's enjoying the show actually. She's enjoying it too much. The rain
stopped. I think the rain stopped.
We're very helpful aren't we? I wonder if I can do Dave's trick.
Yeah a little bit like that. There was nothing to grab onto is the problem.
Well you grabbed onto it. I got my hand in there.
Take two. What did we learn?
Step one is to put those poles in. That's what Dan said. I know but I was thinking of the poles
going up and down. That was fun. You can actually get it up on the van. I still think we should have
made Jay do this on his own. Yeah it's much better with help. He bought this saying I can do this by
myself. No problem. It'll be so easy. I just have to get a little bit more practice now.
I would have fallen. That's why when Dave said oh you need the poles I'm like no that's the
last step.
You really don't need directions to do this. It's all very intuitive.
And we're going to be taking this down pretty much immediately after we put it up.
Maybe we can just seat two people. One person on either pole.
There you go. And that's how you do it. It's simple.
Oh there's the whole gaggle going across the road.
What are they doing? Wapping their heads. Are they eating grass? Oh yeah maybe.
They look so funny doing that.
Bella's getting ready to take Benny out. Are you excited boo? Let's get you all cozied.
Let's go check it out boo. I think they have their heater on. Yep.
Wow there's so many geese. Boo's not a fan of the geese.
They are mean. They are much bigger than him.
They're mean and they're bigger than you right boo?
There you go.
All right the awning didn't go like a hundred percent smoothly yesterday
but it looks like there might be some rain today so I'm going to take this challenge to myself
to set up the awning all by myself. Let's see how it goes.
Thank you for the encouragement. I appreciate it.
Got a little bit of rain happening but thankfully we got that awning up just in time.
Your ladder is a lot taller than ours.
Yeah. Let's see if this is gonna work. Yeah let me...
That is massive. Okay. It's not working how it's supposed to.
So to get it get it to there and then you get out of the way. It's supposed to go down like
the air like that. Wow. But a few of the first ones were aggressive now. That's scary.
So we're sitting around the campfire here. Dave and Teresa have this s'mores thing
figured out. Have a look at this. Is it a s'moresgesborg? It's a s'moresgesborg. That's
amazing. So we've got the graham crackers of course and the marshmallows but look at all the
chocolate options. We've got orange chocolate, almond chocolate, milk chocolate, almond and
raisin chocolate. What's this one? Caramel? Caramel chocolate and Reese bars. How's it tasting?
Anyone? Oh finger licking good over here. Yes the caramel chocolate is my favorite. Fabulous.
Teresa? Comments? Work in progress. We're we're we're working on the uh initial ingredient.
Key. Key part. Yeah. Dave's enjoying a hot dog. Still on the hot dog.
What's the verdict? What flavor did you choose? I did go for the caramel. Oh good choice. I think
is there a salty caramel or just caramel? That would be good too.
The trick is trying to get the first bite and not have it get all over you.
Sort of speed up the process. Jay's pokes around the side.
Eyeing the s'more. Like I mean that could be an ad. Right? Never again.
It's good. I do like those little toffee chips in there.
I don't think the chocolate is soft in any way though. I did put it in too far. Too quick. Too
quick. You gotta bake slow. There's the oven-y side over here. Oh that might be. Put the cookie
also in the fire so the cookie is a little bit soft now. The chocolate is softer. The marshmallow
is lightly toasted. And? Worth the wait? Good. We didn't know it yet but this was to be Benny's last
camping trip. He had been quite sick for the past few months and took a turn for the worse not long
after we returned. He may be gone from this world but still lives on in our hearts and our memories.
