
Géza Mészöly (1844-1887) * Hungarian painter
Hungarian artist Sárbogárd, May 18, 1844. Jobbágyi, November 11, 1887.
Painter. Originally a law student, he began to paint at the same time. He studied in Zimmermann's class at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna between 1869 and 1871. He then worked alternately in Munich and Budapest (1872-1877). He lived in Paris in 1872-1873. From 1885 he was a teacher at the State Women's Painting School in Budapest. He is notable as a landscape painter. He created illustrations for the publication The Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy in Writing and Picture. He exhibited for the first time in 1870. In 1883 he presented his works at a solo exhibition in Vienna. He won a second-class gold medal at an international exhibition in Munich (1883)
