Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been granted interim relief by the Delhi High Court in a case concerning the unauthorised use of her name, image, photographs and persona across digital platforms and commercial products, including misuse through artificial intelligence (AI).
I'm switching tracks from Aishwarya Jain to Aishwarya Rai now.
Delhi court has in fact ruled in favour of actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
during a hearing that took place today in the High Court, stating that
unauthorised use of a name stands in violation of the actor's right to privacy
and of dignity, restraining several entities from misusing the actress's name,
her image and likeness through technology tools.
This is including AI, artificial intelligence and that is what the court has gone on to say.
That such misuse not only causes financial loss as far as the actor is concerned
but also harms her dignity, reputation as well as her goodwill.
My colleague Nupur joining us.
Nupur, take us through a big reprieve and big relief coming about Aishwarya Rai's way
and this is also going to encourage other celebrities to come forward in the same regard
because a lot of them have been facing this issue when it comes to their morphed images
that are prevalent as far as social media sites are concerned using AI technology.
Well yes, Divya Aishwarya Rai had moved Delhi High Court seeking removal of such images
which also included AI generated images and videos of hers on several websites across the internet
as well as some YouTube channels were using AI generated videos of Aishwarya Rai.
In fact, some of the websites were selling t-shirts with pictures of Aishwarya Rai and other products.
So the Delhi High Court for now has given an interim injunction in favour of the actress
and it does come as a big relief as the Delhi High Court has itself noted that Aishwarya Rai in itself is a very big personality.
She has been a brand ambassador for top brands and in fact if her image is used without her consent
to promote any of such activities without her consent and knowledge it can harm her reputation and brand value.
And remember her husband Abhishek Bachchan has also filed a similar petition in the Delhi High Court
and an order on that is also awaited on similar lines.
So this today is in fact a very big relief for Aishwarya Rai.
