When Gravel Gets Gruelling Surviving stage 1 of the TransRockies

When gravel gets gruelling, survival becomes the goal. Stage 1 of the TransRockies Gravel Royale threw everything at us — 72 kilometres of tough gravel riding, nearly 1000 metres of climbing, and the relentless beauty (and brutality) of the Canadian Rockies.
We came into this stage underprepared after sickness and work left little time for training. On top of that, I made a big mistake: not refueling properly during the ride. The result? A battle of mind over body just to make it to the finish line.
