Do we use a singular verb or a plural verb after “neither”?

It depends on the sentence structure!

With singular nouns → verb is singular:
- Neither answer is correct.

With neither of + plural noun → singular in formal English, plural in casual speech:
- Neither of my parents is retired. (formal)
- Neither of my parents are retired. (informal)

With neither A nor B … → verb agrees with the subject closer to it:
- Neither the teacher nor the students are ready.
- Neither the students nor the teacher is ready.
