Dr. Radhika Singh.
Welcome to the 2020 batch of UCM.
Hi guys, I am Dr. Radhika Singh.
I'm just not used to saying this loud but I am a doctor now.
Today is my first day as a doctor in my college slash hospital.
So today I have my orientation day and then tomorrow we have my first ever duty.
I am super excited to vlog this.
The time is 7.23 right now.
Let's get ready.
You know what the funny thing is?
I still don't have a proper stethoscope.
Like I am planning to buy it, like order it today.
Okay guys, so it is my first day as a doctor but we are going to the lecture theatre today
that is in our college, not in the hospital.
Because it is a day about orientation and professors are gonna come.
They're gonna be orienting us about different things that they expect us to do as an intern.
So this is what I'm wearing.
It's blue kurti with jeans.
I'm not wearing crocs today.
I'm wearing shoes.
Since it's a very important day for me, I'm gonna be using my secret to unlock my skin's natural brightness.
This is Himalaya's Brightening Vitamin C Orange Face Serum.
It has 5x Vitamin C, 10x Niacinamide and the power of natural orange extracts.
It is truly the best of science and nature.
It removes skin dullness and brightens your skin.
This is your skin's best friend to get visibly brighter skin from day 3.
Just apply 2-3 drops of this serum on your face twice a day.
Massage it in circular motion.
It has a super lightweight formula so it quickly absorbs into your skin.
You can shop this at Amazon, Nygaard, Flipkart, Himalaya's official website and their app as well.
Honestly, I don't think we need a white coat today because we are just gonna be sitting in our lecture theatre.
I'm gonna wear it.
As soon as we reached college, I was really excited because I met Ishita.
We entered our LD and we were like these are our juniors.
But we thought that maybe after this our class would be starting so we decided to stay there.
We were in the wrong LD.
And we were thinking that no one is here.
So yes, on the first day of our internship, we were sitting in the completely wrong LD room.
And when we saw that no one was coming from our batch, we decided to call our batchmate and he told us that we were in the wrong LD room.
So yeah, that was a nice start to our internship.
Welcome, 2020 batch of UCF.
So then our orientation began.
There were many presentations from different professors about many things like sample collection, how to fill a form, how to prevent needle stick injury, like literally everything.
You told us at home that you became a doctor.
I was really most concerned about my mask.
Because I expected that I would get 92% marks just like school.
My family was very happy. They ordered a cake for me.
I was genuinely shocked to see that our college actually spent the time, efforts and the money to provide us with all these refreshments.
We got a lot of Choco Pie, biscuits, juice and these chips which were called Bhoot Chips.
Overall, it was a really interesting day.
So I'm going back from my first day of internship.
I mean technically it wasn't like my first day as an intern.
We were just sitting in the lecture theatre and we had our orientation program there.
Today we got a notice of where I'm allotted so now I know where I'm going and I'm scared.
The beginning of something big, yeah.
It's making me nervous but you know that type of nervous that means that something good is gonna happen.
After reaching hostel, I made some pulao with my friend and we enjoyed it.
And then I ordered my first ever stethoscope.
Good morning guys, it's another day.
Time is 7.17am and I am so scared.
I was supposed to wake up at 7.30am.
Like I don't know why I'm just scared.
I'm about to start getting ready. I need to wash my hair today as well.
I also have some work to do. I have some editing to do.
I don't think I'll be able to do it there which is sad because whenever I'm in LTE or whenever I used to go to college,
if there was a lecture going on, I could've pulled out my laptop and edit.
But I don't think I can do that in the hospital.
So I'm gonna be editing first and then leave.
Okay guys, so the video is done. I'm exporting it now.
It is also time to leave.
God, why am I already stressing?
Yes, I need to do an important day because it's my first day as a doctor in a hospital.
Even today morning, I woke up before my alarm rang.
That is how like paranoid I am about this whole situation.
I don't know, my first sample could go wrong.
Maybe I talk to a patient and I just say them something stupid.
And then the doctor thinks, how did this pass?
I have all those fears.
Also, I did order some new clothes for myself.
But it hasn't been delivered yet.
So this is what I'm wearing today.
Kurpi and white pants and of course, my white coat.
I will also be revealing which department I am in.
So every three months, my department will change.
So for example, right now, I'm in X department.
The next would be gynecology.
And then maybe after that, I would have surgery or medicine.
And it would just keep going on like that.
I'm going to leave. I'm going to walk to college first.
Because there is another orientation from the department.
And then we'll be going to the hospital.
I smell literally a doctor room.
I won't ever have to introduce myself as Adhvika Singh.
Now I can just say, I'm Dr. Adhvika Singh.
And that is a flex. That's the flex I was working for for so many years.
It's finally time to use that flex.
So, let's go.
Today for breakfast, we had aloo patties and cold coffee.
After that, I went for my first ever day as a doctor.
So now it's time for the big reveal.
I am posted as an intern doctor in preventive and social medicine.
That is PSM.
So after reaching the department, they first divided us into different groups.
And briefed us about what work we are supposed to do.
So I'm in the group that's going to work in a secondary hospital.
Today was our first day.
So the department decided to take us to the hospital in our college bus.
But this facility was there only for today.
So from tomorrow onwards, we'll have to come here by our own convenience.
This is a whole new hospital. I've never been here before.
So yeah, I've never been to this hospital.
This hospital also has a lot of departments.
I was posted in surgery.
So after reaching the hospital, we were guided to our different departments.
We also got a brief there.
On the basis of our roll numbers, we were divided into different departments.
Like ward, OPD and OT.
I am posted in ward today.
I'm posted in the ward.
We're supposed to make discharge slips and also collect some samples.
I've never collected any sample.
So I am really excited for that.
So as an intern, what everyone expects from you is that you should know how to collect samples.
And the only sample collection I have ever done is on a mannequin.
So I was really excited to be finally collecting a sample from a real human.
But at the same time, it was also very scary because there are so many ways this could have gone wrong.
And I think I'm about to give my first sample.
I'm really scared.
But I'm excited because I've learnt a little bit.
Of course, doing it on your own is a little more difficult.
We were very lucky because actually JRs came and taught us how to collect samples.
And then I took my first ever sample.
This is historical for me.
First sample ever.
And it was a success.
Like it was my first time.
Maybe beginners luck.
But we learnt something new.
Like how to take a sample, how to take a sample.
Going to the hostel, I'm so tired.
I haven't even had lunch yet.
I'll see if there's lunch in the mess or not.
Guys, so I'm back from my duty.
I was about to go to my room after lunch.
But then I remembered that on my first day of medical college, I came back to my room, sat and talked to you guys.
And before resuming my day, I wanted to do that again.
Because this was my first day as a doctor.
Practicing as a doctor.
First of all, it's so hot in Delhi.
I'm going to sweat a lot.
So now you know that I'm in PSM.
Which is Preventive Social Medicine.
PSM is supposed to be the most chill branch.
As in we get free from 1 to 4 o'clock.
But other branches like Gynecology, Surgery, Medicine.
All of these, whoever is posted there.
All of my batchmates get 12 hour duties.
Or 24 hour duties.
So those are hectic.
But this is very chill.
And honestly, I'm really happy right now that I'm in a chill branch.
Maybe I'll change my mind later.
But right now I'm just very happy.
Because I feel that right now there are so many things.
I'm shifting.
And many things are happening for which I anyways need time.
So I'm very happy that now I have all the time I need.
I got free at 1pm today.
And I was so happy because I didn't get free so early from college.
And basically there were many things.
Like rural posting and urban posting.
I'm in urban posting.
But there are few roll numbers that go to rural posting.
And those roll numbers are random every year.
So now that I'm in urban posting.
There's this secondary hospital near our hospital only.
It's like 15 minutes away from here.
So it was also my first day in that hospital.
Because of course we've never been there.
I expected so less.
Whenever I thought that we're going to a secondary hospital.
So basically there's primary, secondary and tertiary.
The better the hospital, I mean the more facilities there are.
That much is kept in tertiary.
And our hospital GTB is a tertiary hospital.
So I expected the secondary hospital to be like a very small hospital.
But when I reached that hospital.
I was like it looks better from outside.
And then when we went inside.
I was shocked because it was so clean.
Cleaner than GTB.
The patient load was definitely very less compared to GTB.
Like in GTB there are 2 patients on some beds.
And there are so many patients outside.
It's like literally shocking.
Sometimes there's no way to go to the corridors.
Because patients are loaded.
But here like every ward had some beds empty.
And I was shocked to see that.
Because I've never seen it in our hospital.
So definitely the patient load had a big difference.
Another thing I saw was that the SR.
I mean this is purely luck I feel.
But the SR in charge we got was so nice.
I was expecting that person to be very rude.
Because I've seen in my posting.
That all the seniors are a bit rude.
Like not every senior but most of them.
And so I was expecting this senior to also be very rude.
And be like you don't know anything.
How did you become an intern?
But he was so nice and considerate.
And then according to our roll numbers.
He divided us in ward OPD and OT.
And I wanted to go to ward.
Because I knew we would learn sample collection there.
He thinks we already know.
But we don't know.
And we told him that it is our first day as an intern.
So he did send someone who taught us.
And he taught us.
But honestly no matter how many times you learn it.
Or you see someone.
Or you read it from a book.
Or you watch a video.
You won't understand it unless you do it.
And so even though I had seen everywhere how it is done.
I was still scared to take out my first sample.
Because I have seen so many people doing it wrong.
And for the first time very few people do it.
And even if you do it for the first time.
It isn't sure that you will always be able to take it out.
So many times there are many things that could go wrong.
Like you could hurt the patient.
You could hurt yourself.
You could have like a needle stick injury.
So I was like really scared about all of those things.
And when I went for my first ever sample.
My batchmates had tried it before me.
But no one was able to take it out.
So I was also like.
Someone new has to do it now.
So I tried.
And mine came out.
And I was so shocked.
Because mine came out for the first time.
And I was like over the clouds.
Over the clouds.
Also I feel like the patient was also very very nice and supportive.
He kind of knew it was my first time trying it.
But he was still so nice.
And like supportive about it.
That it's okay you can take it out from here.
And he was like.
Usually like patients are scared.
Because when they come to know that someone is taking it out for the first time.
Obviously anyone would be scared.
But he was very supportive.
I just want to thank him.
That was my first day.
And I am really excited.
Because tomorrow I am going to OPD.
And now after this.
I am going for flat hunting.
Which is like crazy.
And next vlog will be about it.
And I am so excited to be sharing about it.
Because like.
You know when you are excited about something so much.
That at night you just keep daydreaming about it.
How will it be?
What will happen?
I am doing that.
And from yesterday I started flat hunting.
Today is my second day.
There is not much progress yet.
But I am still super super excited.
And like I can't wait to share it with you guys as well.
Make sure you subscribe.
Let me know if you want more vlogs from my hospital life as an intern doctor.
Thank you so much for watching guys.
I will see you guys in my next vlog.
Until then keep dreaming.
Keep smiling.
And keep achieving.
