The Silent Battle Ep 4: Psychological Warfare
Psychological warfare is not fought with weapons, but with fear, pressure, and manipulation of the human mind. The Chinese Communist Party uses surveillance, intimidation, peer pressure, and threats to silence dissent, even far beyond China’s borders.
In the UK, Chinese students have reported staying quiet in lectures, avoiding events, and fearing that their families back home could suffer if they speak out. This invisible battlefield is one of the most powerful tools of authoritarian control. By exposing these tactics, we remind ourselves that freedom of thought and speech must be protected, especially in democratic societies.
We are filmed here in front of Senate House, the centre of the University of London. It stands for academic freedom, but many Chinese students here admit they cannot speak openly, fearing repercussions for themselves or their families back home. This is how psychological warfare extends its reach, even into the heart of British universities.
