Finally the raccoons came back after the bear scaring them
So hang on just... Scooter, would you please stop biting my feet? Hang on just a second, folks. I gotta get the food.
And Scooter's biting my feet.
Jim will be out in just a second.
Here you go, baby girl.
Hi, everybody.
What are y'all doing?
Daddy will be out here in just a minute.
Come here.
Hello, little one.
I'll give him a hot dog. You want a hot dog?
Come here.
Here you go. Oh, yeah.
Good.
You'd rather have a cookie?
I know that.
Would you rather have a cookie
or a hot dog?
Here you go.
So we got one, two, three,
four Scooters over there.
And then here's a little bit.
So, here comes Jim.
Hi, sweetie.
I got the recording going.
It's working.
Okay.
They ain't all that Kentucky Fried Chicken
I had there.
Yeah.
Ain't bones at all.
Goodness.
They're like Kentucky Fried Chicken.
You want a cookie?
You want to sit down?
Yeah, I'll sit there with you.
I'll get my body over there.
I know you're going kind of
slow today.
I'm having a rough time tonight.
Maybe the cold.
It's cold here.
I expect so.
We're having frost up in New Brunswick.
Yeah.
There's one probably heading for the bushes.
Yeah.
These guys seem to be doing okay.
Huh?
Here you go.
I'm cold.
But we have raccoons.
That's a good thing.
Maybe the bear went on.
That old bear.
The bear is scaring them off.
There's that little guy.
I know. There's a little bit.
Yeah.
A little bit.
Yeah.
You want to come and get
something out of the treasure chest?
Huh?
I was asking that one.
Did he want to come and get something out of the treasure chest?
Yeah.
I put a couple of pieces of chicken
up there and they
devoured it.
Did they?
Yeah.
There was two of them up there
eating it.
Anyway.
I got my father's sweater on.
I got my raccoon
whisperer jacket on.
He was
84 when he died.
He'd be over 100 now.
Would he?
Born in 1912.
Yeah, he would be.
My mom was born in 1913.
Why, hello, pretty girl.
Hello, girl.
There you go, Daddy.
There's Bandit.
It's cold.
Huh?
It's chilly.
It was down to 8 last night.
Celsius.
And, uh...
You did live last night after I went to bed.
Huh?
You did live last night after I went to bed.
Yeah, but I had to erase it
at the end. It got all freaked up.
It got contaminated.
A bunch of them seen it, though.
Come here.
It got corrupted.
Huh?
It got corrupted.
We had to take it off.
It wasn't acting right.
You want another one?
I can't stop yawning.
I told you I was tired.
I got one for her.
Give me a cookie.
I got one for her.
There you go.
Get inside.
Oh, he's stealing the cookie.
Give him a cookie.
He thinks he's doing something big.
I'm going to help myself.
Hey!
Stop it.
There's plenty to go around.
Who's that shooting off?
I'm not sure who that was.
There's Bandit.
Hey, Bandit, you want another cookie?
What you doing, girl?
There you go.
She wants to lick all the cream.
Look, it's gone.
Huh?
Gone already.
That's one of the babies there.
Yep.
Peaches, what have you been in?
She's got green
Hitchhikers all over her.
You've been
in the bushes.
Yes, you have.
You got two over there.
Want another one?
So you had a lot of people
on your lob last night.
Yeah.
A little bit.
Goodness.
What did I put on you?
I put sausage out last night.
The sausage that I made the other day?
Yep.
I bet they liked that.
They ate it right up.
So we watched a show today
about
sloth bears.
Sloth bear from Sri Lanka.
Yeah, that's pretty cool.
I didn't know they existed.
They're pretty violent.
They see you, they rip your face off.
That's what they said.
Well, they've been known to kill people
there in Sri Lanka.
187 were killed last year.
Goodness, that is a lot.
Well, they got a big, huge population.
Yeah.
And they're living in their area.
So.
I love bears.
He loves bears.
I want to go to Katmai and watch the bears.
But my daughter,
I was seeing if she was going to come
and celebrate her 40th birthday
with me and my grandson and my son
and all of us.
No.
She is going to celebrate her 40th birthday
on Mount St. Helens
and Mount Rainier.
She's going to go hiking for her 40th birthday.
And I asked her,
I said,
do you have your bear bells
and your bear spray and all that good stuff?
What do you mean?
I said,
please tell me you've done your research.
And she says,
are there bears there?
And I said, yes, there's black bears
on Rainier, for sure.
And I said, there's been some bears
on Mount St. Helens, but not a whole lot.
I said, but
black bears are known for attacking people
more than brown bears and grizzly bears.
All she's doing is eating the cream.
That's all she's doing.
He wants a cookie.
So,
she sent me a picture.
She ordered her some bells
and some spray.
So,
I thought it would be better knowing
that she's going to be a little bit protective.
Don't be chasing him.
Here you go.
That's it.
Look how quick they slipped them open.
No, no.
All gone.
You and your greasy old paws.
My goodness.
He doesn't know
his paws are greasy.
His paws are full of cream.
Are you going to get in it?
Are you going to get in the bucket?
Look at this one.
He's batting me on the pants here.
We don't have any more.
He wants more.
You want me to get another pack?
You want another pack of cookies?
You'll have to go get them.
Hey, baby.
You want me to go get the cookies?
You'll have to get the cookies.
Hunter, you want some cookies?
Yeah.
So, we got a guy coming up Thursday
to do a quote
on the heat pump.
So, that'll be the third
one.
I don't know if we have to have any more than that or not.
That's three quotes.
The one we had the other day was
over
$16,000, was it?
What are you talking about?
A quote the other day?
Does that include taking out the furnace and everything?
Taking out the furnace and the oil tank.
Okay.
Here.
Don't be stealing that, honey.
Here.
Hey, bandit.
All you're doing is flipping them open
and eating the cream.
She'll come back and eat them.
She'll eat some hot dogs in a minute.
I've noticed that she does that
after she gets all the cream she wants.
She eats hot dogs.
There won't be nothing left here
in an hour and a half.
The whole deck will be cleaned right off.
Let's watch her.
Let's sit open just like that.
And the cream's gone.
So, you've had a rough day today.
Who, me?
Yeah.
You took your pain pills, though.
I went out to the mail
and I was down here
on the lawn. I had to pick up the bottom
of that feeder.
I got the mail
and put them boxes in for you
and I took the recycle downstairs.
Yeah.
Where'd all that energy come from?
I don't know, but I paid for it.
I was surprised when I saw you
coming down the steps.
I scare you when I go down there.
Yeah, because
I have earphones on.
I should have hollered.
Hello.
What are y'all doing?
Oh, she's back again.
Back again.
You getting that marshmallow?
Stand up pretty.
There.
Look at that.
Two seconds.
One, two.
She's done.
The cream's gone.
Stand up.
You got her another one?
Stand up.
Look how quick she opens them.
Yep, she does.
All the cookies, there's no cream in them.
That little one there on the step, though,
is eating the ones without the cream.
Yeah.
See? Watch it.
He's eating the ones.
He's the wafer king.
Yeah.
He's doing good.
There's no bones or nothing left of the chicken.
Nope. Nothing up there.
Yeah.
And before anybody says anything,
they can eat chicken and bones and all
because they're adapted to that.
When they
kill chickens and ducks
and stuff in the wild,
they eat everything.
it's the dogs that you can't put chicken bones to.
Or a cat.
My grandma
used to feed her cats
chicken bones.
She'd boil a chicken
for chicken and dumplings.
You know how you get all those little bitty
funky little neck bones and all that?
She'd throw them out to the cats.
You know what I mean?
But that's when her cats lived outside.
He's gone.
And they were all feral because I couldn't touch any of her cats
when I was little.
Get out of here, you.
Darn Miller.
Goodness.
Anyway.
Are you about ready to go in?
He wants a cookie.
Here.
Come here. Here.
Some will take it from you
and some won't. He's taking it home.
You want a cookie?
Here.
Look.
He found one
that was open.
He's big.
Yeah.
I'm trying to figure out who that is.
Here.
What color is the back of the neck?
That's not Sammy.
Come here.
Oh, he's fine.
He found Crino and the other ones.
Look and see if there's a scar
above the right eye.
If there is, that's Lucy.
Look at that.
He took that whole thing
in one big piece.
Yep.
I've got to get my bum up.
Oh.
There.
Pull your drawers up.
I made it.
There you go.
You want some more, sweetheart?
Come here, baby.
Come here, honey.
Are you going home, too?
I heard a cookie.
Connor cat.
Connor cat's in the tree.
Yep.
I did have a first the other day.
A what?
A first.
Was it Saturday or Sunday?
I was laying on the couch with the blankets over me
and lo and behold, Charlotte got up on my side
and laid down and went to sleep.
That was a first.
She gets and sits with me and has coffee with me
every morning, but she's never got on top
of me physically.
What's flying around here?
Millers.
Is it?
What is a miller?
It's a moth.
We'll leave them out.
Leave what out?
Those feeders.
Hi.
She got cookies.
Come here, baby.
Want a cookie?
Go get a cookie.
There's cookies everywhere.
That's a baby.
See if you have a whole one.
There's a whole one right there.
Come on.
There's whole ones all over here.
Come on up.
Going home.
The wind's blowing.
The wind is blowing
and it's kind of frightening now.
Yep.
I've got to get my left leg in
first.
I'm glad you're learning to do that.
There.
Hello, Bubby.
There's a corner cat.
There we go.
Lock it so the bear doesn't open the door.
Yeah, the bear can open that.
I'll get it in a minute.
I'll take my
foot full of saw here.
There we go.
There.
She's in my bed.
Yep.
She's in my bed.
Yep.
Laying on her side.
There she is.
There's
the baby girl.
There's the baby girl.
Aren't you?
You good girl.
Are you?
Are you a good girl?
Stay up there.
Oh yeah.
Sit pretty.
I got a birthday card today.
It's got three
two dollar bills in it.
And a little
note.
It came from Denise.
Huh? It came from Denise.
Denise?
Denise Gazoffa
in North
Plainfield, New Jersey.
Open up the card there.
There it is.
Yeah.
Two dollar bills.
Happy belated birthday. Very nice.
And she sent me
three two dollar bills.
Yep. She knew you liked two dollar
bills. A little note in it.
Yep. Very sweet. Thank you, Denise.
Thanks for thinking of Jim.
And we'll put that in my collection.
Yep. Put that in your two dollar bill
collection. Yep. We don't
have
two dollar bills. We have a coin
and a... Where'd he go?
Oh, him? He's there.
Come on. Yeah.
We have a coin
for one dollar
and a coin for two dollars.
Mm-hmm.
And they were thinking
of making one for
five dollars,
but they decided against it.
Hi, Shorty.
People
be running around with all this heavy
change in their pocket.
Yeah. I got a bottle
in here with the...
I take them up to Sobey's
and I... There's a machine
you throw the change in
and it counts it all
for you and then Sobey's will give you
the money
for it. Oh, this is it here.
Yeah.
Yeah, there's
a... That's a
two dollar one.
Where's the one? I've got
one dollar here.
Yeah.
This is the one
dollar. We call them
loonies because they have a bird
on it. A loon.
So we call it
a loonie. Kind of makes you
think of... And we call this a toonie.
Loonie toonies.
And there's two coins in one.
One's embedded in the other.
And when they first come out, they had polar
bear on them. What's that got on it?
Queen Elizabeth.
Huh? Queen Elizabeth.
Is it? Yep. And then
the polar bear's on the other side. Oh, the polar bear.
Yeah, okay. Yep.
So anyway...
Hey, Connor! And you gave me a set
of the 1967.
Yeah, the Centennial?
Centennial, yep.
I gave you that set. Yep.
And we had...
The nickel had a rabbit on it.
That's my baby.
And our dime has
the Blue Nose sailing ship on it.
Yep.
And our
quarter has the caribou.
Yep.
And we don't have silver
dollars anymore.
You full
now? Did you get full?
Yeah. Connor,
did you get a treat? Yes, he did.
You got a treat, did you?
Yes, I did.
He had chicken.
And he had french fries with gravy.
Yes, you did.
He's a good boy.
Alright.
Say goodnight to all your friends.
Say goodnight.
Huh?
You gonna say goodnight to everybody?
Are ya?
Say goodnight, Connor.
Say goodnight to Tracy.
The one that found ya.
Right, Connor?
One beautiful cat.
Alright, people.
We'll see ya tomorrow, hopefully.
Goodnight now.
