Today we report on the sad news of the death of US Climber, BASE jumper and adventurer Sean Leary, who's appeared on several successful EpicTV series' over the past couple of years.
Hi, welcome to a very sad climbing daily where we're sorry to have to report on
the death of US climber, base jumper and adventurer Sean Leary.
Sean started climbing in his teens in the Sierra Nevada of his native California and
quickly moved on to speed climbing some of the biggest walls in the world, most notably in
Yosemite. His list of climbing achievements in America's best known valley is unbelievable
and on El Capitan alone it includes briefly holding the speed record on the nose two hours
36 minutes, breaking the speed record on the Salathe wall and climbing three routes on El
Cap in one day with Alex Honnold. He also travelled the world extensively making first
ascents in Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Antarctica and Canada. His best known expedition
was probably the last great climb project where he was part of the team that climbed
over Tarna in Antarctica. We heard from one of his climbing partners from that trip,
Leo Holden, this morning and he told us that all he wanted to say was that Sean was one of the
best climbers of his generation and a wonderful guy. Sean was killed base jumping in Moab, Utah
and was found a couple of days ago having been reported missing. He leaves behind a wife,
unborn child, his parents, a sister and two brothers. A sad day for the climbing community
and the thoughts of everyone at Climbing Daily are with Sean's friends and family.
We'll see you tomorrow for more climbing news.
