Well, Brian, despite the rain we saw
last night, we could still use more as
drought conditions continue to get worse
across parts of New England.
A line of showers moved through western
Massachusetts Thursday night into early
Friday morning, bringing some muchneeded
rain to our area.
We finally saw a little rain last night.
Uh many spots picking up around a half
inch or a little less. Uh Westover Air
Reserve base recording 44 in yesterday.
Despite the rain we just picked up, we
continue to deal with expanding drought
conditions.
August was a really dry month overall,
below average rainfall, and some spots
are starting to develop uh some drought
conditions, especially up the closer you
are to the Vermont state line and much
of uh Friendley County and northern
Bircher County.
The latest US drought monitor shows
abnormally dry conditions across the
northern portion of western
Massachusetts with moderate drought
conditions over parts of Franklin and
northern Birkshire counties. Drought
conditions continue to worsen over
northern New England where severe
drought conditions are now showing up in
a good portion of that region. The drier
than normal weather continues to cause
lawns to turn yellow and brown. And with
the dry conditions we continue to
experience, many river levels remain
very low. The Connecticut River is well
below its banks right now. There are a
lot of areas that are usually underwater
that are now very visible.
Now, of course, as Brian mentioned,
there is the chance for some showers and
thunderstorms tomorrow, but it looks
like after that, we may have another
stretch of dry weather on the way for
next week. working for you. I'm 22 Storm
Team meteorologist Adam Stmreco.
