Steel, lithium, copper, caustic soda and red dates coming to the U.S. from China are now considered high priority for inspection by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The move is in line with the Uyghur Forced Labor Protection Act.
Christine Noem, Minister for Homeland Security, says that the use of slave labor is oppressive and we will keep Chinese companies responsible for abuse and eliminate the threats posed by their forced labor against our well-being.
U.S. Secretary of Labor, Lori Chavez de Ramir, says in a statement,
America First means to keep foreign goods manufactured with forced labor away from our shelves and to ensure that American companies do not end up in the aftermath.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Labor are members of the Forced Labor Enforcement Task Force.
The task force published updates to the Uyghur Forced Labor Protection Act strategy aimed at preventing importing goods, quote, mined, produced or manufactured using forced labor from China.
