Hey guys! In this video, I'm going to give you tips that helped me learn a new language
and I'm sure they will help you too. But if you're looking for more specific vocabulary words,
I'll leave links in the description below. I will also have a card popping up on the screen
for a video you'll probably like. So let's get to it! Tip numero uno. Watch as much TV in Spanish
as you can. By that I mean you can watch videos in Spanish, Spanish TV shows, movies that you
like in Spanish. This will help you become familiar with the language and pick up on
different accents and words that Spanish natives use. When I first started to learn English,
I watched as much TV in English as I could. Basically everything that I watched on the TV
was in English and honestly most of the time I had no idea what the conversations were about.
But I was able to figure it out based on the tone the characters were using. So just make sure
whatever you're watching you're interested in. That way you'll be able to kind of like
guess what's going on and what the people are talking about and you'll be learning new words
without even realizing. Watching TV and videos in English when I was just learning helped me
pick up on words that maybe I did know but I wasn't sure what they meant. Whenever I didn't
understand something I would just look it up quickly or I would ask someone and it also helped
me be more informed on things that were going on at the time. TV shows or movies or just trends that
were going on at the time which helped me fit in more with the kids. Tip numero dos. Listen to
music in Spanish. You don't necessarily have to understand everything in a song for you to like
it. Just pick a melody or a song that you like and start listening to that specific singer or
similar singers. This will help you because you'll be listening to the words over and over again.
When I started to learn English, I started to listen to music in English even though I had no
idea what the songs were about. I was younger back then so I had a lot of time in my hands.
So what I would do is I'd go on Google and I would look up the song and the lyrics and I would read
them off and try to memorize them. That way next time I heard the song I knew the words. I would
also look up the lyrics and listen to the song at the same time and sing along. This actually helped
me memorize the lyrics and eventually I knew what those songs were about. So I'm not saying stop
listening to the music you like or stop listening to music in your own language. What I'm saying is
that maybe 40 to 50 percent of your time when you are listening to music try to listen to songs in
Spanish. That way you'll be more familiar with them. Tip numero tres. Set your language preference
on your phone or on your computer or maybe on your TV all in Spanish. This could be difficult
at first because you don't know the words but eventually you'll figure it out and you'll
Also the more you see those words on the phone the easier it will get. When I was learning English I
had my cell phone and my computer in English. Even though I didn't speak the language I just wanted
everything to be in English so that I could familiarize myself with those words and if
something was wrong I could think about what those words were and how to fix it. It was a little bit
hard to remember the words at first but eventually I started to figure it out. Also if something's
wrong with your phone or your computer and you need to fix it you kind of have to figure out what
those words are so that you are able to fix the issue. So you'll remember those words next time.
Tip numero cuatro. Read as much as you can in Spanish. You can read books, you can read magazines,
you can read anything really online. Just look up Easy Spanish Books and there's a ton of content
out there. You can also read a book that you read in your native language. That way you already know
what the book's about and kind of what's going on. But by reading the book in Spanish you already
know what's going on and this will help you remember those words. Also take your time so
that you can learn and familiarize yourself with those new words. I know this works because when I
was learning English I started to read easy books that were really quick to read. One of my favorites
was The Diary of Anne Frank. It was a pretty easy book to read and I had never read the book in
Spanish so it made it a little bit difficult to understand what was going on. But eventually I
figured it out and I became infatuated with those books. There were also other books that I read but
this one was by far my favorite. Tip numero cinco. Make new friends. Maybe you already have Spanish
speaking friends. Ask them questions in Spanish. Talk to them and their family in Spanish. If you
make a mistake when you're talking to your friends in Spanish they'll probably correct you or they'll
probably laugh at you. Just laugh with them. You're learning a new language right so you are going to
make mistakes. Speaking to your friends in Spanish is the easiest way that you can practice the
language and remember what you learned. When I started to go to school in the U.S. I had my
Spanish speaking friends that I completely knew what we were talking about but I also had people
that they wanted to be friends with me so they were patient and they talked slowly in English to
me so that I could understand what they were trying to say. If I said something wrong they
probably wanted to laugh at me but they didn't. They instead tried to help me and made me feel
comfortable speaking around them. So maybe your friends will do that too but you won't know if you
don't try it. Tip numero seis. Try to think in Spanish. I know this sounds crazy especially if you're
just now learning the language but if you make an effort to think in Spanish you will become fluent
in the language very fast because now you're not only studying and you're not only reading and
listening you're also thinking in this new language so even if it doesn't look like it
you're still getting more practice and this actually works. It is a little bit difficult
because you might not know all the words or if you're thinking about a specific thing and you
don't know that word it might make it a little bit hard to even try to think in that language
but if you get stuck on a single word you can just look it up. It's so easy to just go on google
translate look up the word that you're thinking in your native language translate it to Spanish
and then try to connect all the dots together. When I was learning we didn't have google translate
back then so if I wanted to look up a word I would actually have to go on the internet and
surf the web pages trying to find that word or I'd have to use a dictionary. Right now like it's so
easy to just go on your phone look up the word and there you have it. Tip numero siete. Study and
practice your Spanish every day. You don't need books or a friend to practice with. You can simply
watch a show or listen to the Spanish radio. Maybe watch a movie that has Spanish subtitles
or a movie that you recently watched that has been translated to Spanish. That way you already
know what's going on and all you have to do is just try to learn the words. I never liked watching
movies with subtitles when I was learning English just because I would get distracted and I didn't
pay attention to the movie but if this is a movie that you have recently watched you already know
what's going on so all you have to do is just focus on the words and just because reading the
subtitles didn't work for me doesn't mean that reading the subtitles won't work for you. I just
can't be focused on the two things at the time but what did work for me was watching movies that I
had recently watched in Spanish watching them in English because that way like I said I already knew
what was going on and I just had to pay attention to what people were saying and eventually you put
the two and two together. Tip numero ocho. Practice your vocabulary. An easy way to do this is to fold
a page in half. On the left side write the words that you want to know and on the right side test
yourself by writing them in Spanish. This will help you a ton because you are now thinking in
two languages at the same time. You're thinking about the vocabulary in your own language and now
you're trying to translate that vocabulary into Spanish. When I was in school this is what I was
taught to learn something not only a new language so on one side of the page we would write whatever
vocabulary we needed to learn and then you just fold it in half and then on the other side you
would write if it was a question the answer to that question or if it was translating from one
language to the other just look at the word and then write it in English in my case. Subscribe
