Life lately has moved in quiet moments, no rush, no grand plans, just a collection of little things
that brought me back to myself. It's funny how full the weekend feels when you start paying
attention to the parts you used to overlook.
Once a month I'd definitely visit the farmer's market near me. The market was in full colour,
crates of tomatoes, fresh leaves, still warm, and flowers already in bloom, waiting to be planted.
I didn't need much but somehow I left with a full bag and a full heart.
There's something lovely about choosing your food slowly,
face to face with people you agree with. It makes you feel a little more rooted.
Making tea is one of those favourite rituals that I love to do. The kettle sang gently on the gas
hob and I dropped a lemon and honey tea bag, the kind I usually forget about until days like this.
When quiet feels like the most important thing,
steam rose through the stillness and suddenly everything felt a little softer.
Broughton Castle is never far but it always feels like an escape. I've walked those paths
more times than I can count and still. The way the light hits the water, the hush beneath the trees,
the weight of the old stone walls, it never stops calming me. Some places just become part of you.
My first year of growing tomatoes and I'm loving harvesting them. There was a tomato
finally ripe on the vine. I'd been watching it for days, warm from the sun, slightly
mishappened but perfect on its own way. I picked it gently and smiled. Nothing else
really tastes like something you've grown yourself.
The tomato ended up in a bruschetta, chopped, simply dressed, layered on homemade bread
I baked earlier in the week. There's nothing like having bruschetta with homegrown tomatoes.
Then I chopped more tomatoes with red peppers
to roast them and make a really slow-rich pasta sauce.
Nothing complicated, just honest flavours, warm and familiar.
I took it all into the garden, the bruschetta, the pasta and ate surrounded by flowers and
soft palm of summer. Dinner felt like quite a thank you for the day.
