Welcome to the Layer by Layer Ago flight plan.
I'm Don.
Every day we cook a little, write a little, plan a little, and today it's Tuesday.
Focus day.
The one day a week we pretend to be disciplined monks, while secretly wondering how many times
it's okay to check the fridge.
Spoiler, more than once.
Before we sharpen our focus, let's look at the bigger picture.
In Washington, President Zelensky is meeting with President Trump and European leaders,
exploring security guarantees for Ukraine.
Big stakes, no snacks.
Meanwhile, Wall Street is holding its breath.
Retail giants like Walmart and Target are about to drop earning reports.
And the Fed is still playing coy with interest rates.
Translation, the markets are nervous, and so is my grocery budget.
Now, I don't do politics here.
As Johnny Carson said, politics is like a seesaw.
Everybody's up, everybody's down, and nobody's actually going anywhere.
Let's get back to what does move you forward.
You.
Ever feel like your to-do list multiplies overnight?
Mine does.
That's why focus day is all about the daily big three.
Here's the drill.
Write down three outcomes that matter most today.
Not 33, just three.
Yesterday, mine were make coffee, drink coffee, and clean up spilled coffee.
Technically, I was laser focused.
Discipline isn't about doing everything.
It's about choosing the right things.
And if you lose your list halfway through, rewrite it.
Resetting is part of focusing.
In fact, it is discipline.
So what's your big three today?
Write it down.
Even if number one is don't chase squirrels.
Here's a songwriter's focus drill for our songwriters.
Your focus day challenge isn't about rhymes, isn't about searches.
Fans today are literally typing best indie chord progressions,
how to record at home, and what makes a hit hook.
That's where discipline comes in.
Instead of writing whatever you think of first,
answer the question they're already asking.
Open Google Trends or answer the public.
Type your genre and let real fan curiosity point you
toward your next lyric, your next hook, maybe even your next hit.
Tools like Hookpad and Amuse can spark progressions and ideas.
But the history is still yours.
And if the blank page just blinks at you, hey,
at least the cursor is keeping tempo.
One, two, three, four.
Focus isn't just mental, it's physical.
Your brain burns fuel fast, so here's today's energy hack.
Pair your coffee with protein.
Nuts, eggs, yogurt, a quick shake, whatever fits your style.
It's not about rules.
It's about fuel that lasts.
Yesterday I tried powering through the chips.
My focus lasted exactly as long as the bag.
Discipline isn't just about writing things down.
It's about how you fuel your brain to actually finish them.
So here's today's journaling prompt.
What are my big three?
And how will I protect my focus to finish them?
That might mean time blocking.
It might mean silencing notifications.
Or it might mean moving the chips out of arm's reach.
Thank you.
Today in chart history, before we wrap up focus day,
let's take a quick spin back 40 years.
On this very week in 1985, the number one song in the US
was The Power of Love by Huey Lewis and the News.
You know it from Back to the Future.
That song didn't just top the charts.
It powered a whole movie.
Proof that when music connects with the right moment,
it becomes more than a hit.
It becomes part of culture.
And that's the takeaway for us.
Focus, timing, discipline.
They create power too.
The power of habits.
The power of clarity.
The power to get your big three done.
So today, harness your own power of love.
Love your work enough to focus on it
and watch what it grows into.
This was your focus day flight plan from layer by layer ago.
You've got the news, the drill, the energy hack.
Now put it in motion.
Tomorrow is wellness day.
We're talking energy you don't have to fake.
With hacks that make your day smoother, not harder.
So write down your big three, fuel smart,
and I'll see you tomorrow.
Until then, stay focused, stay fueled,
and keep layering better days.
