Ever heard of mango varieties like Graham, Manipuri Five, Neelali Pasant, or Seventh Day? These are just a few among the 400 local varieties collected and planted by Shankaran Namboothiri, an organic farmer from Palakkad. In total, his farm boasts over 700 varieties of mangoes, local and other varieties from all over India. Of the 22 GI-tagged mango varieties in India, Namboothiri has preserved 17, driven by his dream of creating a gene bank to save these precious local varieties from extinction.

Beyond mangoes, his farm is a vibrant ecosystem, home to areca palms, nutmeg, and other fruit trees. Born into a family of farmers, Namboothiri’s deep-rooted connection with the land shaped his life's mission. He believes that in today’s fast-paced world, people's bond with nature has weakened, leading to a diminished understanding of its natural rhythms.

To bridge this gap, he has built a demonstration plot where he shares his vast agricultural knowledge with visitors from around the globe.
