Does the way you treat others in the body of Christ have an impact on your health?
Hello, I'm Christine Miller and I want to welcome you to today's episode
We're excited to join you once again, and we have a live audience today helping us and cheering us on
And so between them and you pulling
The things out of me that the lord wants me to say you will be blessed
And I want to start today by letting you know that god really loves you and he wants you healed
His plan for your life is divine health
And no matter how long you've been suffering from a sickness or a disease
It's not too late to receive from god. He can still turn things around
You know, the bible says jesus christ is the same yesterday today and forever. He didn't just become good
When you first got healed he didn't just become good if you have it for 10 years or even for 20 years
He's always good and he always wants you well
And so we're looking at some things here that are hopefully going to help you to receive that healing today
You know in past episodes we began talking about the truth that christians are redeemed from the curse of sickness and disease
however
We can have an open door to the devil and one of the areas we looked at was through not walking in love and forgiveness
And you know, we have a passage in the new testament that actually gives us the reason
Why some are sick and that's first corinthians chapter 11 verses 27 through 31
And it says therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the lord in an unworthy manner
Will be guilty of the body and blood of the lord
But let him examine himself and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup
For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself
Not discerning the lord's body
for this reason
This is the apostle paul writing this for this reason many are weak and sick among you and many sleep
And that word sleep means deceased or they have died
And so believers paul is saying if you don't discern the lord's body
This is the reason why you might be weak or sick or dying prematurely
And so we saw this that the way that we receive communion will affect our health
Now not properly discerning the lord's body could include of course discerning the physical body of jesus
That by his stripes we were healed
But I believe this goes a step further and it also includes discerning jesus's spiritual body
Who is a spiritual body? Well, jesus is the head the bible says and the church is his body
And so the way we treat the church
It's like we're treating jesus that way and it's important how we treat the church
So I said this before if I was suffering with a sickness and disease that was lingering and lingering and lingering
And it was stubborn to disappear even after praying and standing on the word of god
The first thing I would examine
Is my love walk?
And that of course includes forgiveness, which we talked about our last episode
So we have to we have to ask ourselves. How are we treating other people?
How are our actions affecting those around us?
You know what we do does have an effect on other people
and
Whether good or bad, you know, you can have a positive effect on people and you can have a negative effect on people
But jesus takes this personally
When we don't treat his people with love and kindness
And so it's important and you know
Even more important than that sometimes it's easy to walk in love with people in the local church
But what about with your husband or your wife? What about with your parents?
What about with your children or a close relative, you know, sometimes the closer we are to somebody
The easier it is to get out of our love walk with them and think oh, that's okay. That's just how we function
You know, I grew up in a household where we use sharp words with one another all the time and it became a habit
And so you would talk a certain way and you didn't think anything of it. You just thought this is normal life
And of course last episode I talked about how what we do affects our children
So the way we were brought up we all just talked a certain way and we thought this is normal
And yet I can remember a friend coming over on different occasions and saying
Why is your mom mad?
Why is this person mad and I say they're not mad and it had to do with the way we talk to one another
So you see sometimes you do things that are not right and you don't even know it
And so it's good to examine ourselves
That's why the bible says examine yourself because we're not really necessarily intentionally trying to do something wrong
So it's important that we don't put the wall up now because i'm talking about this
But that we make sure that we can get that wall down and get this resolved
Why because god wants you well
So we have to remember that what we're joined to
Will have an effect on them and it's important that what we're saying or doing is bringing edification
And not destruction to the person or the situation
you know
I'm going to forgive somebody and then i'm going to have to forget about it
You know think about this
Aren't you glad that when your father god forgives you that he forgets about it?
I can tell you right now if he's forgiving you he will never bring it up again
And if it keeps coming up again in your mind
It's probably coming from the devil
The devil wants you to be living under a sense of condemnation and guilt so that you can't receive from god
But our father does not bring up and rehash the past
Because the bible says he forgives and forgets
So in the same way if we forgive somebody we have to forget about it
Now I realize that you can't necessarily erase your mind
You can't erase everything that you've said or done or they've said or done to you
but
You don't have to keep rehashing it and bringing it up again and again and again and if we bring things up
That we say we've forgiven somebody of then we're violating the law of love
And did you know there is actually a law called the royal law of love?
In james chapter 2 and verse 8 it says if you really fulfill the royal law according to the scripture
You shall love your neighbor as yourself you do well
So loving your neighbor as yourself is the royal law of love
And you have to ask yourself do I want someone else talking about me the way i'm talking about them
Uh, would we want someone to treat us the way we're treating somebody else?
Well, we want someone to be short-tempered with us all the time
Taking it further
What i'm about to say or do would I say or do it to jesus
You know the wwjd what would jesus do?
That's an important thing for us to keep in our minds and in our hearts if we're his body
Then when we mistreat a member of the body, we're mistreating jesus
And jesus made this clear when he was speaking to saul of tarsus. We're going to look at acts chapter 9 verses 4 and 5
It says then he fell to the ground that's talking about saul who later became paul
And he heard a voice saying to him saul saul. Why are you persecuting me?
And saul said who are you lord?
Think about this saul was arresting christians. He was having them put in jail
He was persecuting them and he was even getting ready to put some of them to death
He so believed that this was the cause of god
He had a real zeal against the church of jesus christ
And so the last person he thought was talking to him at that moment was jesus
And he says who are you lord?
And then the lord said I am jesus whom you are persecuting
So when saul was arresting and condemning christians to death jesus said
Saul was persecuting him
And so we can see that how we treat the body is part of discerning the lord's body
Are we treating the body the way that we should if I love my fellow church members?
I'm going to be careful to share the load in serving in my local church
If I love my fellow church members, i'm going to be careful about what I say about them
I'm going to be careful about how I treat them
You know, we have to discern that we're not an island and selfishness has no place in the church of the lord
Jesus christ and really in this world that we're living in today
selfishness abounds
You know the first time I ever saw somebody post what we would call a selfie
I couldn't believe it my jaw dropped because that to me was a form of being self-centered
Now we've come so far now. Don't don't throw any sticks at me for saying that because we've all put selfies out there
but
You know, we've come so far as a society where everything is about us and what we're doing and even what we're eating
Like we don't have time to look at pictures of what everybody's eating. We have a work to do for jesus
amen
So selfishness has no place in the body, but it's abounding in the world around us and you know
One thing that will happen is the spirit of the world will always try to get into the church
And so we have to be careful that we guard against selfishness
And I think one of the reasons that we're seeing more sickness and disease in the church today than we were many decades ago
Is because more people are slandering and hurting other people
You know, it's popular to slander in the media. It's become popular to slander on talk shows
I mean you have entire talk shows devoted to slandering
um, and so
It gets into the church and it hurts people around us and bitterness and forgiveness have a high price tag
what people don't realize is the end result is disease and crippling diseases and
Cancers things that are horrible, you know, we have to always ask ourselves. Can I afford to slander this person?
Can I afford what i'm about to say or do?
Because it's going to have a high price tag on you personally
You know, I heard a story one time of a woman who was involved in her local church
But she had a bad habit of sowing discord with her words
She'd always be talking about somebody saying something negative about somebody
and as time went on
She was diagnosed with a terminal cancer
And this was in a day where they didn't have the modern medications that we have today
And so she was left to die
And as she was at home suffering in her bed
One day the pastor and a group of the church members came over to her home to pray for her
You know, that's what love will do even though this woman was difficult for them. They still loved her
And so they went to her home. They surrounded her
They they were getting ready to pray for her and she stopped everybody. She said now wait a minute
She said I realize that for years
I have sown cancer into my local church through my words
And through my actions and she said now I am reaping cancer in my body
And so she asked for forgiveness of the pastor and the people that were there representing the church
And when she asked for forgiveness, of course, they forgave her and Jesus forgave her
And when they laid hands on her and ministered to her she was instantly healed of cancer
I want you to know the way we treat the body has a huge effect on our outcome in our health
And so it's exciting to me to hear stories like this though, because even if you get that far gone where you're dying
The lord will still heal you if you'll get back into love and forgive those that have wronged you
You know one of the greatest
Teachings that jesus ever gave us is in mark 11 and in verses 24 through 27
He first teaches us how to pray
He said when you pray whatever things you ask when you pray believe that you receive them
And you will have them and everybody loves that part of the passage because we all want our prayers to be heard and answered
But then he goes on to say and whenever you stand praying
If you have anything against anyone forgive him
That your father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses
But if you do not forgive
Neither will your father in heaven forgive your trespasses now, that is a serious passage
You know, you can't receive answered prayer if you have unforgiveness toward anybody for any reason
And so we know this answered prayer includes healing if you're praying for healing you want to receive it
And so I just encourage you
forgive people
Uh, stop talking negatively or evil of other people. It will not do you any good
Eventually what you sow you will reap
You know, jesus also taught us to pray when he taught us the lord's prayer as we call it and part of that it says
Forgive us our trespasses now anyone who's a good catholic knows this version forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us
God wants to forgive us god wants to heal us. We've seen in previous episodes that
Forgiveness and healing are a package deal
And that's why if you don't forgive and you can't receive forgiveness
You also cannot receive healing because it's a package deal
So I encourage you today if you have anything against anybody for any reason forgive them
Let it go
You know, you're the only one who's really suffering the most from it
Anyway, and I know you want to be free from the bondage of sickness
You want to be free from the bondage of oppression because unforgiveness brings those things into our life
You know, the devil's just looking for a crack in the door to get in
And this is one of the areas that he can so today I encourage you shut that door and get things right with god
Well praise the lord
That's all for today
