Tonga Open Ocean Swim to Pangaimotu 🏝 (2021) | Tonga Vlog

[Music] do [Music] hello everybody and welcome to a very sunny hunger the weather is absolutely gorgeous today it's the sunny as always hardly any clouds in the sky and it's the one day that i'd probably be wishing for a little bit more clouds i'm not 30 degree kind of temperatures uh because today i'm currently heading into town um to go to uh to go to the wharf uh to take part in a swim to one of the nearby islands so the island that i'll be swimming to is an island called pangaemotu and actually there are boats there i think pretty much every day including sundays uh you can go there on a day trip but um i think it's gonna take me a little longer to swim there i'm hoping around an hour um it's 1.8 kilometers away but obviously uh it depends on on the sea condition and and how big the waves are luckily it's not that windy today so it's it's really hot it's gorgeous sunshine and hardly any wind um so the no wind thing will definitely um probably help me out i've never done a swim in the open ocean before so um this is my first time however i'm not going in completely unprepared so i swim pretty much every day um out in the reef where i live um i do about one kilometer there every day i try and do every day when i don't get too lazy um but this is the first time that i'll be swimming from somewhere to somewhere in the open ocean um and i'll show you guys uh so usually you can get the boat there i'll show you guys that in a minute uh where you get the boat from and a day trip there usually costs uh 50 panga but it's obviously and that includes uh food food as well when you get that but it's obviously going to be a little bit cheaper for me i'm not getting about taking the uh the cheap way across and uh i'm swimming across i'll be getting the bird back there um definitely we don't want to swim back i don't know we'll see we'll see pangea mojo is a very cool island um i'm going to do a whole a whole video on kanye mojo so you can look forward to that it's very cool it's very small i don't know actually how big it is but you can walk around the whole island um and it's very famous island here because it has uh like a shipwreck right in front um that you can you can explore if you're brave enough and climb up and jump off uh you'll probably be seeing me doing that later if i still have any energy left after after this swim so um i'm gonna carry on my drive get into town um get myself a coffee and wear myself up for the swim it's been organized completely it's not me doing this you'll meet the organizers in a minute there's going to be kayaks following us along there's a group of several of us i don't know we'll meet everyone when we get there but it's going to be fun and i don't know if i can do it i hope that i can do it i don't know uh but uh let's see let's see so i'm looking forward to uh to my first open ocean swim yeah i'll show you more when we get there if at any time you feel panicked or if you need help just wait for somebody [Music] okay so i've been registered got my number already number three uh there's about 16 of us all taking part um and uh just had a nice safety briefing so this is the point where you usually get uh the ferry to motu very usually comes here and then you go up over across and apparently after uh swimming there as well we're gonna have three groups and then after swimming there we also have the option to um to run around the island which is another cave a kilometer is not much but on the sand it can be quite heavy so um so let's see how that goes but um i'm excited ready to start and definitely ready to get in the water because it is very very hot as you can see and really not very clouds in the sky so um definitely ready to jump in even though the water is itself about 27 degrees we first got off to the boat to drive over the reef and get out into the open [Music] ocean [Music] once we've caught up to the support kayaks and boats it was time to begin [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] and finally i'd arrived on pangaemoto island and finished my first ever ocean swim [Music] some of us were very happy to have arrived [Music] [Applause] [Music] so here i am on pangamotu i've just finished my swim i've got my medal it's more of a participation medal because i definitely didn't confess there are some very very good swimmers but i made it all the way from this island back here this is tongatapu um to pangamoto which is the island that i am currently standing on and it took me i need to check my time actually it took me about 40 minutes 45 minutes uh which i think is is pretty good going my first time swimming in open water and i can tell you the sea looks pretty calm right now but i swear to god a minute ago when i was when i was swimming really didn't feel that calm um but uh but hopefully uh it will just get me prepared for her biggest one next time so now i need uh some food and a beer [Music] [Music] [Music] you
