From in the mud to above the clouds, my daughter's first real off road motorcycle riding on her Suzuki DRZ125L was quite an adventure. Exploring the forest near Shotgun Creek OHV area in Oregon was awesome. It was cloudy in the valley, but we were able to ride our dirt bikes and dual sport motorcycles above the clouds, giving us an amazing view of the Willamette Valley below. The valley looked like an ocean of clouds, and the mountains were islands peeking up above the surface. It was an amazing sight, but that was only the beginning of our off road motorcycling adventure. Afterward, we set out to explore some of the nearby logging roads and found several muddy sections and we even had a dirt bike fail along the way. Finally, Lil' Dork found the courage to attempt her first ever dirt bike trail riding! We took on one of the easy difficulty trails and Shotgun Creek and she was a bit anxious, but in the end she came through her Suzuki DRZ125L trail riding experience with flying colors. I'm so proud of how she handled herself on this super fun father/daughter motorcycle dual sport adventure.
Lil is gonna get out on the 125 for the first time. It's like an ocean of clouds.
Is it still running? No. Use your brakes. Use your brakes. Man, Scott left his coffee on the
trailer. That's very trusting. Someone could pee in it. There you go. You're riding trails right now.
Are you hauling ass on purpose? No. You rode your first trail. You crushed it. That was terrifying.
Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Dorkside. I'm the Dork in the Road and today Lil is going to
get out on the 125 for the first time and you should be able to hear her. Say hi, Lil. Hi.
There she is. All right, we're here with Scott and Luke. We're out near Shotgun OHV. We're just
going to putt around, check out some forest roads and some beautiful views today. Take it easy and
let Lil Dork get her first off-road adventure, first official off-road adventure on her DRZ 125
in. So Lil, how are you feeling about shifting and your new bike and everything? I'm doing good.
I feel good about it. I'm working on shifting though. I can do it but I gotta like get it to
go smoothly. There's some pretty views though. Yeah. Very clear on this side. That's nice.
Yeah, that is pretty. Yeah, not ugly, huh? Oh, look at the mountains too. They look gorgeous.
Three sisters are very snowy. Can you see that on the camera? Gorgeous right out there. I'm gonna
crash trying to do this. Yeah, me too. So I just glanced over and looked right back.
Got some ice to break. Oh, sweet. Awesome. Yeah, ice breakers. So it is cold. It's like
40 degrees up here right now and in the shade it is still icy. My favorite tree is still here.
Hello tree. It's sketched, man. Hasn't fallen yet though. It's been there for six months at least.
Well, how do you feel, Lil? How does the 125 feel? Good. It feels good. Like better than the other
bike? Yeah. I'm more confident on it. It's gorgeous out here right now. Yeah. Yeah, so the kickstart is
still proving a little problematic. She can't reliably start it on her own so I'll be starting
it for her today at least until I get tired of doing it. It's actually really easy to kickstart.
It's a technique thing, not a bike thing. Yeah. I can start it pretty quickly every time so she
just needs to learn the technique and learn how to use her weight. It's easier for me because I'm
over twice as heavy. So we're here with Scott and Luke. Scott is on a 1987 Honda 4Trax quad
and Luke is on a CRF250R or X. I don't remember and we're right on the edge of
Shotgun because that's it that's on the Shotgun trails. It's good to be out.
There's a black diamond if you want to take it. Let's not. Okay. Okay, I was gonna otherwise.
You're just gonna go straight for it. I was 100% gonna take it for sure. Holy goodness.
I gotta stop and look at this because wow it is like so we are the whole valley is
socked in with clouds right now. There's a better viewpoint right down here and we are above it so
we're a couple thousand feet right here and most of the valley is sea level. Look at that. That is
ridiculous. That's amazing. It's like an ocean of clouds. A little kilter bike so I get to restart
it. Spectacular. So this is the whole Willamette Valley. All farmland. The city of Brownsville is
out there. Not today. Not today. This is hard when I'm wearing gear. I don't like it.
Okay. You gotta pull on the clutch when you stop. Yeah.
Good? Yep. All right. Used to be starting off was the scariest part because that's
when you killed it all the time but. Stopping. Now I gotta work on stopping.
Yeah. One scale at a time. Damn dude. So cool. I want to get this on the camera.
Amazing. Just spectacular. It's like an ocean. I keep saying it but that's exactly what it looks
like. So cool. So cloudy days. The view is better on non-cloudy days but you don't get to see this.
Pretty cool. We are above the clouds right now. You good? Yep. Continuing on. Also don't go off
the edge if you can avoid it. Okay. I would not recommend it. Yeah I need it with the ice though.
Ice? Ice. Oh that's real ice. Yeah. Oh that wasn't real ice. Yeah.
Fortunately there's water underneath otherwise I'd be in trouble. Yeah just like a hole. Just
breaking some thin ice. No big deal. How much does a DRZ weigh enough to break the ice?
Oh big one. This could be stupid.
I wish I had that on video. I can feel the ice ice chunks hitting my foot.
Fun. All right this part's a little sketch. Okay just follow me up the high side.
You good? Oh you okay? Yeah. I'm like bulky stuff so. Is it still running? No.
I know why. I'm confused what happened. You good? Yep. All right thank you. Are you okay?
Yeah. Okay your gear held up adequately? Yeah. Momentum is key. It was frozen and then the side
fell. You slowed down so I couldn't just stop. I'm sorry I was trying to help you by going slow
so you didn't feel like you had to go fast for the sketchy part. My bad.
I apologize. All right we broke it in. That's good.
You see what I mean? It's easy to start. She just doesn't have the leg quite to kick it yet.
She's a tough old bird though. All right I'm glad you're okay. Sorry you fell. Sorry I led you astray.
Okay it's pretty muddy in here so decide where you want to turn around.
I'm gonna let them go ahead of us.
Do you want to go in front of me for the ride back? Yeah I'm going along.
All right. You're doing good. Thanks. I can tell the crash didn't rattle you a lot so that's good.
Yeah no it wasn't that far to the ground. It didn't hurt so. We gotta get those hand guards on.
All right sketchy part. Left side. Nailed it. Crushed it. Annihilated it. That's where she
crashed a minute ago. Like it was nothing. Yeah. I can't keep up with you. She's going in the puddle.
You are wet. You are wet. Your pants are not waterproof.
Good job. Good riding. She's feeling it now.
What's your favorite thing about riding in the woods? The short section first.
It's worth climbing. Not like this just longer. It's pretty cool. It's pretty worth it. You just
really just want to put it in first or second and go and you'll be fine. What do you think?
Yeah it's fine. Go. Okay. You don't want to stop. I'm not gonna stop. Okay. Are you in second? Yeah.
Okay. It should be easy just to keep it in second and go. It's pretty cool up here man. It's totally
worth it. I promise. Yeah. You good? I'm right behind you. I know. Are you good to keep going?
Yeah. Okay. I'm just checking on you because I love you. I do. There's a big run out up here so
easy to stop on flat ground. It's a little bumpy. Did you make it?
Yeah. You're the best one.
Good? I need to go up the hill but I gotta roll down a little bit. Put it in first gear and roll up.
There's a beer can right there. I see that. You can just get off right there if you want to.
I can't go up the hill. Oh more gas. More gas. You didn't kill it. Good job. Yay.
That's a panorama for you.
You doing good? Yeah. Okay. You good? You ready? I'm right behind you. Okay. Yeah. Use your brakes.
Use your brakes. I think I'm in first. Sounds like it but that'll keep from going too fast if
that's what you're worried about. Like I'm literally not using my engine at all. I'm just
lightly using the rear brake to slow down is all.
It's beautiful. Mountains are gorgeous. I'm out here with my kid riding bikes.
Man. Jefferson's got a lot of snow since the last time I was up here.
Crazy. It's coming deep up in the mountains. Yeah. It sounds like you're in first. Yeah. Are
you behind me or on the side of me? I'm on your side. Okay. Then I'm going to shift after this
Whoa. Yeah. Keep your hands on the bars.
That was fun. You didn't have the clutch pulled in. You just power shifted.
Whoa. That was fun.
That was fun. Yeah. That wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be.
No. Things are usually harder in your mind.
Yeah. And Scott left his coffee on the trailer. That's very trusting.
Someone could pee in it. Someone could steal his coffee.
They could take a dump in it. Out of all the places, his coffee.
Okay. We don't know where this goes. So don't go crazy fast.
Yeah. I'm trying not to. There's a log right there.
Could be trees and stuff in the road, as you can see.
How cool. That'd be fun. That'd go fun times. There you go.
Okay. Slow down, kid.
Yeah. You're doing it good. Okay. Let me know if you want to stop.
Okay. I will stop whenever you want to. You did good.
Thanks. I tried to not let him. Yeah. Just keep going. That's the trick.
Okay. There's just a turn around here. Yeah. That's what most of these roads are.
Whoa. Apparently I decided to stop on the way. You're kind of in the way.
I mean, that thing is so small. You've got a great turning radius. It's easy to turn it around,
but here's what I'm thinking. Let's go backwards. Turn your wheel this way.
Backwards? Yeah. Because then you can be just pointing out and uphill.
I got you. I'm holding your bike up. Okay. Look. See? Now you're pointed out.
Good. Can you get your feet down? Yeah. I got my foot up.
You're golden? Yep. Sorry I had to help you make a turn.
It's fine. You get your confidence up. We haven't practiced in flat ground mud,
so hilly, cliff-side mud is intimidating. Have fun in the mud.
Hold on. I'm going to have to shift into first, so stay back a little bit. I mean second.
Don't look down. You need to be looking. Feel for the shifter with your foot.
Seriously, just ride up in here. I'm on a DRZ. They rattle.
That's how far it is. You can ask them. I'm with them.
They know the area better than me. Did you meet some people?
Yeah. They should ask me what's dangerous, but I don't know.
It's down that road in front of them.
Oh, there is a mud hole right here. Not too bad.
Yeah. I just rear-brake it down this hill.
That's weird. I leave you alone for five seconds.
So it is mildly sketchy right there, but not crazy. Do you want to go up it?
Okay, no pressure. I'm going to do it again though.
Okay.
So
yeah, there is one more trail down here that's not too bad.
I guess I could go run it to remind myself. Because it may not have anything like that.
I'm not sure. When I do the next one down, it's pretty easy to. I always miss the entrance though.
And if I... Oh, there's a big tree in the road. Cool. Don't hit this big tree.
Okay. Actually, this is the entrance. So can you just wait here?
Yeah. Okay. I'm going to go past it a little bit. Okay. I'm going to come from the other direction.
Okay. Gotta remember I'm riding this to make you feel better, not to see if I like it.
It's not too bad. Not too sketchy. There's some puddles. Big puddle. Big puddle.
It's not bad. Okay. I'm going to loop around. Find the kid.
Hopefully we reconnect. Usually it's automatic.
Hey. This one's easy. I think you could duck walk it if you wanted to. There's no big up or downs.
Okay. There's a couple puddles, but that's about it. I think you could totally do it.
You don't have to. We could always just turn around if you got to a part you didn't like,
but I think it's pretty easy. No pressure. You want to try it? I want you to go in front of me
if you do. You can set the pace. You got it, kid. You got it. It's easy and wide. It's an ATV trail.
Slow down. Slow down. It's easy on a motorcycle because it's wide enough for an ATV.
Okay. You're going fast. I didn't think you were going to go fast. I didn't think I was going to
go fast. No, you did good. You're scaring the **** out of me. Okay. Slow down some. Use your
clutch, kid. Use your clutch. Pull the clutch in. That's how you go slow around the corners,
and your rear brake is your friend too. Okay? Okay. Your speed is good. I just don't want you
to get intimidated. Okay? Okay. So use the clutch. Keep the throttle on. Use the clutch
to just give a little power here and there because the corners get a little tight.
There you go. There you go. You're doing so good. You're doing so good.
You're riding trails right now. The moment has come.
You're not even slowing down for water. You're steaming so bad.
Are you hauling **** on purpose? No. Pull your clutch in some. If you pull the clutch in and
coast, you'll feel better. Do you feel like it's out of control or do you feel like you're going
as fast as you want to? I'm pulling right out of the lane. Okay. Well, use the clutch more.
It's a skill you need to learn. Yeah. You're going to use the clutch to give... Remember
like we practiced just giving a little clutch to move forward a little here and there?
Yeah. You can totally do that. And use your rear brake when we're going downhill like this.
Yeah. But you got to pull the clutch in or else it'll kill your motor.
Oh, you're doing so good. You're doing so good.
And I have it all on video. That's the end. I'm trying to crash behind you.
That was pretty close. I was trying to go up a muddy hill. Okay. Can you stop? Yeah.
Lil Durk! Lil Durk! You rode your first trail. You crushed it. You're hauling ass.
How was it? That was terrifying because I could not go downhill.
It's because you're not using your clutch enough. Are you in first or second? Second. Oh,
no. That's first gear. I told you to go first gear. That's funny. You did so good. I almost
died when I went in the thing. It scared me. You did great though. Thanks. You did really good.
Okay. Well, you were going a little fast, but your bike can handle it and so can you.
When I went in, I was looking at the trail like, wait, I can't look at the tree. I don't want to
crash into it. Yeah. You got to look farther ahead. That's good. Crushed it. Crushed it.
Thanks. All right, y'all. Thank you very much for coming along. I hope you enjoyed
Lil Durk's first adventure on her DRZ125. How do you feel, Lil Durk?
I feel good. I'm glad that I got to go on a trail and ride it exactly how it was.
Yeah, she crushed it on her first trail ride. She's, it seems like she has a lot of confidence
on the DRZ. Do you feel like it's a good size, like a bike you can handle? Yeah, it's a good
size and a good, like, power. Confidence-inspiring? Yeah. We're going to head back to the truck. So
if you haven't yet, please consider giving this video a like, maybe even subscribe if you're not
already a subscriber so you can see more future adventures with me and Lil Durk, all the other
shenanigans we get into. But for now, and as always, I just want to say thank you very
much for watching, and please do not forget to be excellent to each other. Thank you.
Excellent! That was really loud in my ear.
