Fancy a motorcycle adventure touring Morocco? Join me as I ride from the UK on a big-bike off-road epic, a trip which formed Bodge Tape Adventures and set the foundations for Ollie Moto. Spoiler: this trip was “amazing”. In Episode 1 we catch the ferry from the UK, and drop a bike in the process, then cover 500 miles in one day through beautiful Spain arriving in Marbella to meet the legend that is Ramon.
So, here's the plan. Starting at Reading in the UK, we want to head here, Morocco in Africa.
We're going to catch a ferry to Santander and then head south through Spain to a friend's
apartment in Marbella. We then hop across the Med into Morocco and down to Medelt,
and from here we go off-road on a route taking us across the Atlas Mountains to Wazazet.
Next we head east to Mazuga to play in the Erg Chebi sand dunes before travelling up to Casablanca
and then back to Spain. We then ride north, stopping at a few places like San Sebastian
and Ryder's Rest near Limoges in France, before taking one last ferry from Cannes to return home.
What could possibly go wrong?
How you like me now? How you like me now? How you like me now? How you like me now?
to Santander and we are having a good time so far. It's been a pretty eventful first 24 hours,
so YT arrived at my house with a really nice working GS adventure. Yeah, so I got some brand
new sparkly Pazzo levers for the bike. Started the bike, everything was working fine, and then
actually came this morning to set off and I couldn't start the bike in gear. I was like,
oh, that's a bit strange. So I got to seats, had a look at the levers, played around with it,
adjusted it, and then seats was like, oh, hold on a minute. His clutch and his brakes weren't
working as they should be. The levers that he's fitted, they were made the wrong way around. So,
I rebuilt the levers and we then set off. The theme continues with YT then as we arrived
on the ferry and we were literally just turning around a little U-turn inside to tie the bikes
down. In the rear mirror, I noticed that YT was no longer sat on his bike. Yeah,
I was riding on the ferry, nice tight U-turn. I was like, yeah, got this nailed.
Oh, there's a bit of a bump in the way. I'll just get around that. We're all right.
I didn't have it nailed. Dropped it. What more to say? It's out of the way. It's done now.
Got to wait for the rest of the guys to drop it. First pull of the trip. Yes, nailed it. So,
the very helpful ferry staff then ran over, grabbed his bike, picked him up,
and pushed him into the right place. Now we are waiting to see what happens next.
Come boys, tell me what it's like.
Shit, it's rubbish. You know I want to eat this.
Spoil it on the first night.
It's food. I really want to eat this.
Whole budget in one bite.
It's terrible.
You need a bit, you know, you play with them afterwards.
I was up at eight.
I heard you get a shower and I was like, what's this lunatic doing?
We didn't go to bed till I passed two.
I woke up and I was like, I'm awake.
Oh, your stinking flip-flops, mate.
They're back on my feet.
I'm not sure how long they're going to last.
Sounds like some of the cheese we had last night. Stinking flip-flop.
How does it fold down, what?
I don't ******* know.
It definitely folds down.
Definitely folds down, doesn't it?
Yes, yes.
Standby for a demonstration of how to fold the bed up.
Such a gay lord.
Can you smell me?
Just a small example of the laughs that we have on roads in Morocco.
We're planning to dock, I think about 6.15.
And then we're going to pretty much get off the ferry and ride half an hour down route.
And we've got a hotel booking for tonight.
Hopefully none of us are going to drop our bikes getting off the ferry.
Some folks are born with a silver spoon in hand, Lord knows they help themselves,
But when the tax man comes through the door, Lord, the house will be like a rummage sale.
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son.
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one.
We've just ridden literally 30 minutes from the ferry port.
And I realised I left loads of stuff on the outside of my pannier that's supposed to be in it.
A, all of my cables, and B, all of my GoPro filming stuff.
So that was pretty lucky.
We've also turned up to what is possibly the nicest hotel you'll find in northern Spain, Hotel Reggio.
I actually quite like this bike, the weight on it, it sits quite nicely.
Maybe not while we're off-roading, but now it's lovely.
Captain Shittybum.
That says the biggest shits on there.
That says me, the guy that always gets the shits, yeah.
I can't wait for Morocco, it's going to be awesome.
Trousers, nope, don't want them.
Is it this one?
Nope, don't want that one.
Have you got his pants?
Oh yeah, hang on.
Battery's dead.
His battery died.
Oh no, it's still recording.
Why has the screen gone off?
Say power.
Oh man, sorry viewers.
So it turns out if you have wet pants and you stick them on your luggage, they dry quite nicely.
Although they are the most secure pants in the world.
Just take this clip off, and this clip off, and this clip off.
Do you need the pants though?
Oh, they're still wet.
Of course the other side's wet.
God damn it.
Just strap them back on.
What are you doing Al?
Looking at the Instagram post.
Oh right, yeah.
We were a bit concerned that you were getting involved with a bit of tech.
Just wanted to make sure you were all right.
I've just fired up the hamster.
How do I use this phone again?
You've got the sat-nav working like a GPS though.
It's a bit better than a bike, I promise.
Not that bad.
What do you need mate?
I'm filming dude.
I've already got my hands full.
He looks like an American child on holiday with his cat.
It's sunny, I've got my hat on.
He's got it!
I lost my bollocks, but I've got it.
So there's nothing?
There's no bar, no kitchen, nothing?
It's pretty much off-season.
There's no room at the inn, basically.
We could have four pitches.
Yeah, so team vote to Seville?
Sevilla?
Yeah, whatever.
How are you feeling Alan?
A bit tired, but I've got 788 kilometres on my Kila one.
So it's about 500 miles isn't it?
500 miles.
Is your bike a little bit hot mate?
Harry Warner's mate.
Morning beautiful.
Oh **** off with the ******* cameras first thing in the morning.
Are you feeling sleepy Alan?
Yeah.
Come on, it's time to get up, we've got to go to Marbella.
Yeah, stop filming.
Who's Ramon?
So Ramon's that guy there.
Who is he like?
So he just rents the apartment out.
And we're putting him in the garage.
Yeah, we're going to move it all.
It's pretty exciting isn't it mate?
Yeah.
This is lovely mate, absolutely lovely.
Look at him.
Are you Ramon or Richard?
Ramon.
Ramon, Ramon.
I'll just spanish him out.
Right Al, that's four.
We've got to sort this out, get four bikes in.
Where's the dog gone?
We've lost the dog.
Did you see where the dog went?
Yeah, left.
No idea.
And all new but not...
What did he just say to you?
He said the Sprocket's bad at it.
The day before we go to Morocco.
What's your professional opinion Whitey?
Go with it.
Yeah, that's my opinion because we've not really got any other choice.
I'm going with it.
I won't be doing any mental road riding.
Oh yeah, we're going to Morocco.
Got to save the Sprocket, yeah?
Cheers gentlemen.
Cheers.
How are you all feeling?
We're f****** stoked.
Tomorrow's exciting.
Finally.
It's been two years in the planning, so excited.
Which bit are you looking forward to mate?
Just the endless trails of the desert.
I think I might just wear one pair of pants and a kit and just not take anything else with me.
So Ollie, as you do most of the filming, you're not on camera very often.
I'm not.
What are you looking forward to mate?
Going to Africa on a motorbike.
It's been excellent mate.
It's been brilliant.
It's a good first trip.
Yeah.
Those bikes are amazing.
So my little Triumph Tibe, I absolutely love that bike.
You can sit on it for hours, it's nice and comfy.
I've still got a little soft spot for my sports bikes but not for something like this.
