Hands-On With The New Unimatic Heritage Diver GMT In Brown

Unimatic have introduced a new series called the Diving Heritage Collection. Comprised of nine watches, each with a familiar case design, but now reimagined with a subtle vintage feel. The model we're looking at today is the Modelo Uno Heritage GMT Diver in Tropical Brown. Unimatic is known for its minimalist design approach. Founded by two industrial designers in Milan, the brand has built a clear visual identity over the years. The new Heritage series builds on that with restrained updates that give the watches a retro edge without dramatically changing their DNA. The most noticeable changes here are visual. The loom is now a warm, creamy color paired with a tropical brown dial. It's a relatively small change, but one that shifts the character of the watch. The black bezel insert was intentionally left unchanged, offering contrast and avoiding an overly uniform look. The case measures 40 millimeters across, 13.2 millimeters thick, excluding the sapphire crystal, and 49 millimeters like to lug. The 41.5 millimeter bezel is easy to grip and rotates with 120 click action. It's rated to 300 meters of water resistance and has a solid case back and screw-down crown. Inside, the watch uses the Seiko NH34A automatic GMT movement. It's collar style with a 24-hour hand adjustable at the crown. It's a straightforward, reliable movement with 41 hours of power reserve and manual winding. However, it doesn't feature a date, which could be a downside for travelers tracking multiple time zones. On medium to larger wrists, it wears rather well. The included two-piece TPU strap is soft and flexible, tapering from 22 millimeters at the case to 20 millimeters at the buckle. The overall feel is solid with a strong wrist presence. The bezel action stands out. It produces a sharp, mechanical sound that adds to the tactile experience. Now, there are few limitations to keep in mind. The NH34A movement has a wide stated accuracy range, though many users report a better real-world performance. Also, the lack of a date function might be inconvenient to those looking to travel with this GMT. And while the tropical brown color is distinct, it may not appeal to everyone. Some might have preferred a darker, more subtle shade. The good news is that this model is also available in both a black and dark blue colorway. At €750 plus VAT, this model sits in a competitive price range. While it doesn't offer high-end specifications, the build quality and design consistency make it a compelling option for those who appreciate Unimatic's aesthetic.
