What's up Tipsy Travelers, welcome back to the channel.
Today we're spending 48 hours in Strasbourg, France, an absolutely gorgeous, charming city
with some of the best food and drinks in the world, so let's dive in.
Strasbourg's history is a real tug-of-war between France and Germany.
Once part of the Holy Roman Empire, it became French in 1681, switched hands several times
after the Franco-Prussian War and the World Wars, and finally returned to France in 1944.
Today it embodies European unity, home to the European Parliament, and it's really a culture
that blends both influences very beautifully.
And when it comes to that culture in Strasbourg, there's really no better place to start than
with food and drinks.
The region is famous for its wine, beer, and elite-level food.
On our first day, Sarah and I enjoyed a picturesque lunch right outside St. Thomas Church, followed
by drinks at Black & Wine, a cozy rooftop bar at Hotel Hanno.
And while it doesn't offer panoramic views of the city, it's a relaxed and cozy atmosphere
that offers a wonderful selection of Alsace wine, and Sarah and I were up to sample as
many as we could.
For dinner, reservations are usually a must, though it depends on the season, as many restaurants
do close after lunch and reopen around 7pm.
Even the more touristy spots near Notre Dame deliver some seriously good food with amazing
nighttime views.
In our opinion, Strasbourg and Colmar have some of the best cuisine in the world.
Strasbourg really is an architectural gem, but the true crown jewel of Strasbourg is
Notre Dame Cathedral.
Built between 1015 and 1439, it was once the tallest building in the world, standing at
142 meters.
Its astronomical clock, a 16th century mechanical marvel, still operates today.
It's easy to say that the churches in Strasbourg are a must-visit while you're here.
And don't forget to visit the nearby museum that showcases original sculptures and art
from the cathedral.
After exploring the cathedral, take a peaceful stroll along the Barrage d'Albin, a 17th
century bridge with incredible city views.
Then wander into Petite France, a storybook district filled with half-timbered houses,
cobblestone streets, and charming gift shops.
It's year-round Christmas vibes with the best souvenirs.
Sarah and I stayed at the Hilton Strasbourg, just a short ride from city center and the
train station.
It was modern, comfortable, with a great bar, and offered amazing city views.
So after 48 hours in Strasbourg, we are officially in love with the mix of French and German
culture, the incredible food and wine and beer, and the stunning architecture makes
Strasbourg a must-visit destination.
