Students studying on our BA Art and Contemporary Craft, Graduate Diploma in Fine Art and Masters in Fine Art have the opportunity to exhibit their work to the public and industry professionals.
All the School of Arts and Conservation courses mount some form of an exhibition.
The Masters in Fine Art, Graduate Diploma and BA in Fine Art
also go on to mount a show in the Copeland Gallery in London.
This may well be their first show but it certainly won't be their last show
and they've been learning all of the skills from making the work in the first place
to curating, discussing, making the catalogue.
The whole experience and those are things which are going to
keep being important parts of their practice in the future.
It's called Guilty Pleasures and it celebrates the twin pleasures of sugar and gossip.
This is about Glasgow and it celebrates the sweetie wives who were women within the 18th
and 19th century who bought cheap sugar and they made boiled sweets which they then sold.
And when people came to buy the sweets of course there wasn't just an exchange of money,
there was an exchange of gossip.
The title is A One Day I May Understand and it's about personal loss, grief and turmoils.
I think it's really good for West End to have this opportunity for us to create a summer show.
We can learn so many more things like the creations and hanging works,
hanging system or how to present the work more professionally.
I formulated the mantra soften and good things will happen
after a period of creative stuckness and turbulence.
I started a self-soothing practice of really immersing myself in nature
and I kept coming across qualities of hardness and softness within the same form
and I became really interested in how these qualities can hold each other in balance.
