Over here in the area where I grow most of my food, it has not been easy.
Even though everything is netted up, I got marigolds
growing like crazy. Every once in a while, I see one or two flowers.
My pepper plants look so good, but they're not
producing any flowers to get some fruit. But the plants look very healthy.
So at one point, I pulled the netting back
to allow it to, you know, continue to grow up because they're reaching for more sun.
These two beds back here get less sun than those do,
which is why those are producing more fruit.
These, they're growing, but they're not producing fruit.
And the deer, they just came along, ate all the tops of the peppers off.
Because both of the beds in the back here, or actually they're in the front
coming this way, are my pepper beds. I'm excited about this plant here. This is
a paprika plant. I wanted to make my own homemade
paprika spice, but I have no flowers yet.
Now the jalapeno peppers are doing pretty good.
I've harvested a few peppers, and I always have peppers growing here. Every
time I stop by here, I see more peppers growing.
They're not ready for harvest. This one is.
There's always one at the bottom that I forget to pick.
I don't really like when they turn red, but that's one that I forgot.
But yeah, so, oh, look at this plant. The jalapeno plants are doing pretty good.
And then the cucumbers over here.
Y'all, I've just noticed the purple. I've got neighbors coming out.
This is the Mississippi purple field peas.
So the deer have been chomping on the field peas as well. The cucumber plant
definitely has been eating a lot. That looks like a tomatillo.
They plant seeds early in spring, and just now seeing the plant. Pretty cool.
But my cucumbers, even though they've been attacked
the most by the deer coming out from the netting, it's still
doing pretty good because, look y'all, I got another cucumber
there. I'm gonna go around, but there's one there
and another one down there. So the cucumbers have done really well.
Still lots of flowers everywhere. So over here to the melon patch,
it was doing well until the deer recently discovered
this bed, and they have been eating the leaves off the vine, of course. And in
doing so, the fruit are dropping, so that's not
good. Oh, I see a melon right there. There's a cantaloupe, a fuzzy.
The fuzzy ones are the cantaloupes, or the honeydew.
So my melon plants have taken off, but I've lost a lot of little melons
that are just falling from the deer eating the vine.
My little sugar baby down there is still doing good.
I see, do you see it? Let me get under the netting. I see
ginger growing. That looks like ginger. At first I thought it was a weed, but
I did plant ginger roots early in the spring,
and I actually planted them under the black cloches
so I could know where they were at, but of course they didn't stay there.
They grew over here. So I have at least two, I think, two ginger plants.
So that is pretty cool. Maybe another one there.
And then I also noticed okra. That looks like okra to me. I also
planted okra by seed. Didn't think those were gonna come up,
and they'd have. I believe this is the motherland
okra seeds that I planted. So we got lots going on in this bed.
Could be a great harvest of many things if the deer will let it be,
but I doubt they will.
And I have it covered in netting. There's not much else I could do,
but just kind of watch out for the deer and shoo them away.
All right, so just a quick update. Thanks so much for watching. I'll catch you guys
in the next one. Bye for now. I found another marigold.
