How to make a shell mirror ~ DIY seashell mirror ~ Coastal Home Decor Ideas from thrift store mirror
I find lots of sea shells on my beach walks and I’ve been dying to create a mirror covered in sea shells. How to make a shell mirror? First I needed to find an inexpensive mirror, so I hit a bunch of thrift shops in search of something that would fit on the wall I wanted to hang the mirror on.
I was hoping for an oval mirror but I was having a really hard time finding one with the correct dimension for the wall I wanted to hang the mirror on. The mirror I eventually found was a rectangle shape and covered with blue and white porcelain tile. I knew I wanted to cover all of the tile underneath so I made a “base” layer of scallop shells and then layered more shells to cover the entire frame.
I used E6000 glue and I would do it again! My only gripe was the very thin “strings” that it leaves behind when doing this type of craft so I had to go back with tweezers and remove all those strings.
I am really happy with the way the mirror turned out and now I want to cover more things with shells! I see some sort of jewelry box or a picture frame project in my future!
