Luxor Karnak - Open Air Museum
Luxor in Egypt is an ancient city on the Nile river that is often called the world's greatest open-air museum. It has an array of spectacular temples on both of its banks. It has the magnificent Karnak temple on the east side of Nile river. Luxor was once known as Thebes. Sprawling Karnak Temple complex showcases massive columns, obelisks, and statues and is one of the largest religious buildings in the world. For over 2,000 years, each Egyptian pharaoh added their own legacy to this monumental site, dedicated to the Theban gods, primarily Amun-Ra the king of the gods. The Hypostyle Hall in Karnak has towering columns inscribed with hieroglyphics.
"A paved path of sphinxes once connected Karnak to the Luxor Temple, a grand walkway fit for divine processions." Unlike other temples which were dedicated to gods or goddesses, Luxor temple was the setting for the annual Opet Festival, where the kingship was rejuvenated in the divine presence of Amun-Ra." "Here, the walls narrate stories of divine birth and royal coronation, intricately carved into stone. Each depiction, a masterpiece, brings us closer to understanding the lives and beliefs of those who built these temples."
