3 Days in Takayama, Shirakawa & Hida Japan 2025

Three peaceful days in the Japanese Alps—this is rural Japan at its most serene.
Starting in Takayama, we wandered through morning markets, cedar-lined shrines, and quiet alleys in the preserved old town. We took a slow journey to Shirakawa-go (UNESCO village), one of Japan’s most stunning traditional villages. We ended with a visit to the koi-filled canals of Hida-Furukawa—an unexpected highlight.

This trip wasn’t about rushing through famous landmarks—it was about slowing down, taking in the quiet, and seeing a side of Japan that often gets missed.
