Hey there everyone. This is Edna White
and welcome to tonight's Real Talk. If
you ever avoided checking your bank
account, putting off opening bills, or
pushing money conversations away, this
is for you. You're not lazy.
You're not hiding anything. You're not
irresponsible.
You're likely in trauma.
I used to keep my bank app in a folder
on my phone and it would be called
later, you know, or I would not even
look at it. I'd put it at the last end
of all my apps on my phone. So, I would
I would avoid it and forget about it. I
thought it was just because I was bad
with money, but really I was emotionally
frozen. frozen in the time when I as a
young child saw my mother's struggle and
saw what soon as she got money it was
flow it flew out of her hands to pay a
bill or she worked very hard and she had
no time for us because she was sleeping
because she was tired
that emotionally weighed on me and as a
child I literally
was working and making great money as a
little kid you you know, and I would
wash all my money and put it under my
mattress.
Maybe a year later, I had almost $1,200.
So, you see, it's not
lazy. It's frozen. So, I'm frozen in
that time, in that era where I hear
that money is bad for me. That money, if
I have money, I wouldn't know what to do
with it. If I had it, it was dirty,
filthy, and I could not control it. That
was my nervous system trying to protect
me. And now remember, everything that
goes on in your body, fight, flight,
frozen,
fawning, it all has to do with your
nervous system. Remember that.
When you've experienced instability,
especially around money, your brain
associates financial tasks with stress
or shame.
For instance, if you for your own small
business or maybe your your little side
hustle, you work 9 to5 and then when it
comes to do your business, you kind of
get a little bit lazy. Oh, I'll get to
it. I'll get to it. It's only making 600
anyway.
That's fright. The fright of being
successful.
And that trauma and that nervous system
response
shows up on how you do your business.
Avoidance becomes a coping mechanism.
But here's the shift. Once you name it,
you can start reclaiming your power.
Naming and reclaiming, not claiming, but
naming and reclaiming something that's
new.
Start with one small win. Log in.
Breathe.
No judgment. Healing your money story
doesn't happen overnight, but it starts
with awareness.
