All right we're about to make our final approach on Gibraltar. We just caught a glimpse of it then
and it looks awesome. This huge rock sticking out the ground on the sea. I'm so excited. Let's go and
do the border control and get to our hotel. Apparently there's a Morrison's there too.
Oh exciting times for us. I'm feeling the Emily's supermarket blog coming off.
Probably. All right let's go. There it is. The rock. Oh this is so cool.
Bigger and smaller than I expected all in the same moment.
But I thought the general land mass would be bigger but it's so cool.
It's almost like Monaco. Yeah it does have a Monagascan feel.
I must have expected a lot of people to take a seat here. We've got miles of seats.
Quite good.
I can't believe how far we've come. Absolutely.
There's the sign.
Gibraltar.
Do you think we've got a border control to go through Sean or is this Gibraltar now?
I would guess there's a border control but I don't really know.
I think we'll be okay because obviously we've got British passports so we should be straight in
and then on the way out we've got our Swiss identities.
Okay that water actually looks really appealing today. What's the temperature at?
It's 24 degrees. It's cooled down a little bit in the last hour.
Oh here we go Gibraltar.
Trucks I guess is that one.
I think we are in the wrong lane so maybe if you go up there.
Yeah I waited for these people to go and I think I'll take a little shortcut.
He just pushed his scooter through which was a great idea.
There's the border just there. It does look busy.
Look out.
But we're still in Spain we're not in the UK yet so.
I guess so. A few people coming out.
A little bit cheeky here.
Nicely done.
Vehicles without custom formalities.
Just go right to the front Sean. I don't think anyone's going to be bothered with a bike.
Well wasn't that just a lovely welcome?
Well it was. Charming.
We made it. We're here in Gibraltar.
Yeah the little path trick at the end saved probably about an hour of sitting in the heat.
Yeah no one was bothered by it.
Other people were doing it too.
Doesn't make it man.
You were a trend follower not a trendsetter Sean.
I was. I think oh.
Airfield ahead. So this is what we were talking about Sean. This is the airport road.
Restricted access to western beach only.
Oh I think I need to turn around here don't I? That's changed.
Okay.
I think.
Well everybody else is here on bikes.
So the main road here in Gibraltar also doubles up as where the airplanes land.
So the airstrip. So you can actually drive on the runway here.
Which is really interesting isn't it?
Okay I think we're gonna have to turn around here then.
Then he's just going for it.
No they're all turning around.
Okay cool.
So it looks like they're putting in a new road system here in Gibraltar.
And you can go around it now.
Yeah I should have. I haven't updated the sat-nav in a couple of years.
So you're probably overdue.
Wow this is awesome.
That rock face is sheer.
Maybe this way?
Nope it was up there.
Of course it was.
All right going up this time.
Oh there it is. There's the rock hotel.
That's where we're staying right? The rock?
Yes that's it.
Where Winston Churchill frequented.
And it's right next to the cableway.
Oh I think it was up there Sean.
Oh no that's no entry, that's just me.
Wow.
I'm just gonna pull up here because he's right up my arse and I think I need to go left here.
Welcome to Gibraltar.
We're staying here at the Rock Hotel.
This is one of the most historical hotels in Gibraltar
and has many people that stayed here including lots of British royalty.
And if it's good enough for them it's good enough for us.
It's a really iconic place here in Gibraltar.
It's been here since 1932.
So we decided to stay here while we explore Gibraltar today.
So let's go give you a hotel tour.
Let's have a quick look.
Grand staircase straight away.
Always a good start to a hotel.
Because Gibraltar is so small there's not so many hotels available
so you really can pick and choose the perfect one because there's not there's not a whole lot
because it's only 6.8 kilometers in size Gibraltar, or square kilometers in size.
It's quite quite a big population for such a small place.
It really is.
This is the wall of fame.
Some of the famous people that have stayed here.
Winston Churchill.
There's Winston himself.
So this hotel also has a pool which is outside which we have already been to.
Which was really nice wasn't it? The pool.
It was. It was a saltwater pool but it was really refreshing.
So you come in and we have our bathroom which is very traditional with the wood
and the green.
This lovely little bathroom.
We also have a mystery door and all of our panniers and helmets all in the corridor.
And then you come into the bedroom area.
Beautiful bed.
Kettle of course.
And tea making facilities.
And then you kind of have the best bit.
Sean.
Always here.
The best bit is this.
Look at our view.
So here is Spain.
This side and then just on the horizon this peak here is Africa.
As well as you can just about see the hotel pool which is here.
And you can also see Shadow down there in the bike parking.
But overall this hotel is just wonderful.
We're at a very windy point that Europa hits.
It's the southerly most part of Gibraltar.
And there are spectacular views here.
You can actually see Africa just over there.
In the distance.
And lots and lots of boats crossing over one to the other.
It is a very busy sea here.
But it's really cool to have reached this point with Shadow with our 1250 GS.
It's such an achievement to have come from Switzerland all the way down here.
And then in a few months we'll also be at the Nordkapp.
So we've really covered some kilometers already on Shadow.
Yeah I think he's got about five and a half thousand kilometers on the clock.
And we only picked him up two and a half weeks ago.
So he's done well.
So we're gonna have a little ride around the island here.
Well it's the point where the island is.
The rock. We're gonna ride around the rock.
I want to go and see if we can find some apes.
Because rumor has it there's plenty of them on here.
It's quite quiet this evening.
All of the shops are shut.
But it's been really nice to just take a stroll in the warm weather.
And kind of feel like we're back in the UK.
But we've come to this square to have a look around to find somewhere for dinner.
And obviously with us being in Gibraltar I've spotted a fish and chip place now.
In the UK when I was young chips on a Thursday night used to be what my family always did.
So I wanted to show you guys the prices so you know for when you come.
So fish and chips you've got a small is £9.
And also mushy peas and baked beans are all £1.70.
So you can compare that with the prices in the UK.
But we're gonna have a little wander around here.
It's such a lovely atmosphere here.
It's got such a nice feeling to the place.
And then just behind me you've got you've got the rock up there.
The scenery around is lovely.
But let's go and find somewhere for dinner tonight.
So like I was saying before a mandatory thing when we're in Gibraltar was to get some chips.
Some good old British chips.
Chippy chips.
And we've come to Roy's.
World famous chippy here in Gibraltar.
So let's go get a portion of chips.
None of those pan frits for us.
No.
I want the vinegar.
Vinegar.
All the vinegar.
Looks good.
Best way to enjoy chips is salt.
Plenty of it.
And then drown it in malt vinegar.
And these are the mushy peas.
They look good.
They go well with also vinegar.
Really?
That's a personal preference.
I've never had that.
But do you like mushy peas anyway?
I've never been a big pea fan to be honest.
How are they?
They're really good.
All right I'm gonna try the mushy peas.
I never was a fan of peas so I never tried mushy peas as a kid.
So this is for you Sean.
First time.
Rolls of mushy peas.
It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
It's supposed to be enjoying and not supposed to be not as bad.
Yum.
Chips.
Fantastic.
But mushy peas I'm still not sure about.
Okay this is the ocean front section here.
Got lots of restaurants along the front.
Hopefully we can find something scrummy and yummy for dinner.
Even though those chips did really fill me up.
Did they fill you up?
Nope.
Okay.
This is such a cool vibe down at the port.
All of the restaurants are jotted out so you can see the port and watch the sunset.
