Cartier. Founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier,
the brand has consistently redefined the world of haute jewellery.
Cartier's journey to fame began when it caught the eye of royalty. In 1856, Princess Mathilde,
the niece of Napoleon Bonaparte, purchased a set of diamond jewellery from the Yonge-Laison.
This royal endorsement propelled Cartier into the upper echelons of French society.
Cartier was instrumental in pioneering new design trends. It introduced the use of platinum in
jewellery, a metal that allowed for more intricate and delicate designs. The famous garland-style
tiara and the use of the tutti-frutti-style gemstones, characterised by vibrant,
multi-coloured gemstones, became iconic signatures of Cartier's craftsmanship.
Additionally, the panther motif, first introduced in 1914, remains one of Cartier's most enduring
symbols. With its sinuous lines and majestic presence, the panther has been immortalised
in countless jewellery pieces, becoming a beloved emblem of the brand.
Van Cleef & Arpels Van Cleef & Arpels is yet another
designer company from the Art Deco era. Founded in 1906 by Alfred Van Cleef and his uncle Salomon
Arpels, this illustrious maison has become synonymous with exquisite craftsmanship.
The founder's commitment to excellence quickly garnered attention, and their jewellery pieces
began adorning the necks, ears and fingers of European aristocracy. Van Cleef is also known
for its exclusivity and futuristic designs like Mystery Setting. This innovative technique allows
gemstones to be set in a way that conceals the prongs, creating an unbroken surface of brilliance.
It's a hallmark of the brand's commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional
jewellery craftsmanship. Van Cleef & Arpels draws inspiration from the natural world,
and this is evident in their iconic Alhambra motif, which features clover-shaped designs in
various gemstones. Van Cleef & Arpels is famous for creating wearable works of art that transcend
time and trends, making every piece a treasure to be cherished for generations.
Bvlgari Bvlgari is an illustrious Italian luxury brand renowned for its exceptional jewellery,
watches, fragrances and accessories. Sopterios Volgaris, the founder of Bvlgari,
started a small jewellery shop in Rome, Italy in 1884. He had a vision to create exceptional pieces
that combined Greek and Roman artistry. His unique approach soon earned him a devoted clientele,
including Italian aristocrats and wealthy travellers on the Grand Tour.
Bvlgari's reputation as a symbol of luxury reached new heights when it became a favourite among
Hollywood stars during the 1950s and 1960s. Legendary actresses like Elizabeth Taylor,
Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren adorned themselves with Bvlgari creations,
cementing the brand's status as a red carpet favourite.
One of Bvlgari's most iconic motifs is the Serpent, which has been featured in various
jewellery collections over the years. The Serpenti collection, introduced in the 1940s,
consists of serpentine-inspired pieces that wrap around the wrist or neck,
often adorned with brilliant cut diamonds and colourful gemstones.
Graff, the renowned British luxury jewellery brand, is famous for its unwavering commitment
to the world's rarest and most exceptional diamonds. Journey of a founder, Lawrence Graff,
to prominence, began as an apprentice in Hatton Garden, London's renowned jewellery district.
Armed with an innate passion for diamonds and a keen eye for exceptional stones,
he opened his first store in 1960. Graff quickly gained a reputation for acquiring
and cutting some of the world's most exceptional diamonds. The Leicester Promise,
a 603-carat rough diamond discovered in 2006, was one such acquisition. Graff transformed
it into numerous exquisite gems, each a testament to his mastery of diamond cutting.
Graff's creations are marked by their daring and innovative designs.
The Hallucination, a timepiece adorned with over 110 carats of coloured diamonds,
is an example of the brand's audacious approach to jewellery design. Each piece is a masterpiece,
carefully crafted to showcase the beauty and brilliance of its diamonds.
Harry Winston. Founded by the visionary jeweller Harry Winston in 1932,
the brand has left an indelible mark on the world of fine jewellery and gemstones.
Harry Winston opened his first jewellery store in New York City at the age of 24.
Winston's innate ability to identify exceptional stones and create exquisite jewellery soon earned
him the title King of Diamonds. One of Harry Winston's most significant contributions to the
jewellery industry was his acquisition of several historic and world-renowned diamonds.
The most famous of these is the Hope Diamond, which he acquired in 1949. His ownership of this
legendary blue diamond further solidified his status as a leading figure in the world of high
jewellery. Harry Winston's commitment to exceptional design is evident in the brand's
iconic collections, including the Winston Cluster and Sunflower. These collections exemplify
Winston's dedication to showcasing each diamond's unique beauty and brilliance.
Tiffany & Co. Tiffany has a powerful legacy attached to its name. It first set up a store in 1837
under the name Tiffany, Young & Ellis, and later changed to Tiffany & Co.
In 1886, the introduction of the Tiffany setting, a six-pronged diamond solitaire engagement ring,
revolutionised the way diamonds were showcased, emphasising the stone's brilliance and fire.
Later on, Tiffany has introduced several iconic jewellery collections,
including the Tiffany Tea, Tiffany Keys, and the Atlas collection. These timeless
designs reflect the brand's commitment to creating pieces that transcend generations.
The brand's cultural influence reached new heights when Audrey Hepburn famously portrayed
Holly Golightly in the film Breakfast at Tiffany's. The movie's association with
Tiffany solidified its status as a symbol of elegance and aspiration.
