The Mycenean civilization was destroyed by the 11th century BC invaders from the north. Three hundred years of “darkness” would elapse till the new Greek civilization would begin to form. It would ultimately become the envy of the world, but before it reached its height in mid-5th century BC, it would go through the period of development, which is in itself of great interest. This lecture presents this period in the history and the arts of Greece, called Archaic (7th – 6th c. BC).
