Well guys, it is finally official.
I'm on the way to go pick up one of the two auction cars that I won this week.
If you watched my last video, looked in the comments section, you'll see I've been leaving
some breadcrumbs.
I left some breadcrumbs on Instagram.
Again, if you're not following me on Instagram, be sure to go and check that out.
And also, on the last video in the comments section, I said I won two cars this week.
Now one of them is kind of, you know, close by.
It's a little bit over an hour away in Orlando, Florida, home of Disney World, Universal Studios
and all that stuff.
And also, an IAA location.
And so we are going there.
I've got a U-Haul on the back.
One quick thing I wanted to mention about the U-Haul.
They offer two different options.
They offer one that's a dolly, and the dolly basically is the ones that you see where the
rear two tires of your car are dragging on the back, and the other one is where all four
tires are elevated.
Now, I picked the larger one.
It only costs about $10 more a day, and I picked it because you just never know when
you get there if the tires are flat or if one of them has a tire or a wheel issue.
In this case, I'll give you a little hint.
This is a flood car.
I don't expect it to have anything like that.
And in the pictures, the car looks fine, like most of the flood cars you guys send me.
Now, I know exactly what you're thinking.
Sam, you always say stay away from flood cars.
You never buy one.
And that is 100% true.
This car has a specific purpose, and it also was, let's call it fairly cheap, but we'll
talk more about that once we get it on the trailer.
So I think you guys might be a little bit confused when you see what shows up on the
trailer, but I wanted to give you a little bit of detail as to how it came about because
it was a real last minute deal.
Yesterday morning, I called the broker that I've been using now, and that's a company
called eRepairables.
If you want to learn more about them, link is in the description box below.
But basically, it's the broker that helps me buy through Copart and IAA.
And that's one of the reasons why I really like eRepairables, because a lot of these
brokers only deal with one of the auction houses, whether it's IAA or Copart.
They deal with not only both, but a few others.
And the way that their system works, you usually proxy bid, which means you pre-bid on the
item, your high number, and let it go to auction.
It's like a set it and forget it type of way of bidding.
I kind of like that because these auctions can go on for literally hours and a day sometimes.
And if you just proxy bid, you put in your high bid, basically it gets bid up by increments.
It doesn't expose your high bid unless your high bid gets surpassed by another bidder.
And it keeps you disciplined.
It's a big thing.
We talked about it in the Audi R8 video.
Discipline is key because getting into bidding wars, especially with one other person, can
cost you thousands of dollars.
So anyway, I didn't bid on this car.
The auction had already started.
Now when one auction starts, there's just a row of cars that continually are being bid
on and sold, one after another after another, hundreds of cars.
And I found this car, again, last minute, and I was like, man, this car would be really
helpful and I know it's going to sell for fairly inexpensive.
It'd be really nice if I could get it, but I didn't proxy bid.
So I called them up over at eRepairables.
They said, no problem.
We'll take care of it.
They actually bid on the car live, won the car, and it's great.
Now we are almost at IAA here in Orlando.
When we get there, we're going to check in, but there's one other big thing I got to include
about eRepairables, the reason why I like them so much.
Pretty much every other broker I've used has what I consider a security flaw.
They expose your high bid that other people can see.
And if you haven't heard this one before, when I pre-bid on the Audi S3, this was a
while ago.
I used a different broker, and basically that car went for what my high bid was.
The pre-auction bid was around $9,000, $10,000.
My high bid was $13,000.
It got bid up to exactly $13,000 before I won the car.
Now it could be complete coincidence, but I did find out after the fact that there was
this flaw in this other broker's system, and that is just unacceptable.
I don't know why any of these brokers operate doing that.
Again, another reason why I use eRepairables.
If you bid on their site, if you bid with them verbally over the phone, everything is
hidden.
If you want to learn more about that security vulnerability, click the video in the link
posted above right now.
You'll learn more about it, but we are on the way to pick this car up, and we're almost
there.
All right, so we are at our pickup location here.
I'm just waiting, and I think I hear the forklift driving around in the back there.
Here he comes.
You can see in the distance there, let me see if I can zoom in a little bit, I just
saw his forks.
There, you see his forks up there?
So we basically need to wait to hear from this guy.
Got some interesting cars.
That's a nice, clean Mark V GTI over there.
Is that our car, guys?
I don't think so.
I'm documenting me getting this car.
Not this one, that one.
Friendly guys over at IAA, friendly.
Guys, be sure to hit that like button for the forklift drivers.
They need a little bit of love, you know?
I like how he thought I was trying to pick up that old Cobalt, like that's the one I
really wanted.
Which, by the way, this car is more exciting than an old Cobalt.
Not that much more exciting.
This is not going to be our main rebuild project.
This is going to be part of another project, but you're about to see what it is.
All right, guys, here he comes.
I think that he's got it.
I don't know.
Just to spite me, he might be giving me that old **** Cobalt.
There it is right there.
There's the old **** Cobalt.
Just to spite me, because he wasn't very happy with my video.
Uh-oh, here he comes back, this guy here.
Here he comes.
Yeah!
All right, guys, I hope you can see me, but that **** just yelled at me.
Like, come on.
I'm not walking back there filming cars, bro.
He actually turned his forklift around to come and tell me.
That's one big thing about these auctions, and everybody wonders, why aren't you going
on site and recording these videos?
And the reason is, is because you can't.
They don't like cameras back there.
They don't want you to see what's going on.
All right, guys, my good friend the forklift driver has put the car on the trailer, and
he's gone, so I think I can show you at this point.
We have a real piece of ****.
It's a Chevrolet Spark, and this is a flood car.
See how dirty and filthy these flood cars get?
Now, the cool thing is, here, we talk about water lines.
Look at this.
This is a clear line.
That's our water line.
This car, that didn't cost hardly anything, probably could be revived from the dead, but
unfortunately, it's going to be disassembled, and we're going to end up using it for parts.
These cars tell a story with what's in there.
Look, it looks like there's a piece of a skateboard in there.
I don't know if that's the top to a vacuum cleaner or what in the hell that is.
There's all sorts of crazy stuff in here.
There's a credit card in it.
Yeah.
We'll go through everything a little bit later.
It's dusty and gross out here, so let's get out of here, and let's talk on the road.
That was a lot of fun, so we're on the road with the Chevy Spark.
You guys are wondering, what in the hell did he buy?
He's bidding on an Audi R8, a Shelby, but he bought a Chevy Spark.
I bought this with a few intentions.
Number one, it was local.
Number two, I do need some parts off of a Chevy Spark for another project.
You guys heard that I bought two cars this week.
Well, it has to do with the other car.
These cars are so cheap, I kind of just roughly calculated the total of what all the parts
would cost me for the other car, and I figured, why don't I just bid on a Chevy Spark?
Again, this one came up for auction yesterday.
Called eRepairables.
They took care of business, and I got the car.
The other thing I want to do with this car is show you guys what a flood car entails.
I get a lot of emails, especially as of recent with the hurricanes.
There is just a massive amount of flood cars all over the United States.
It doesn't matter that the hurricanes were in Florida and Texas.
What happens is they send these cars everywhere.
People are sending me flood cars left and right.
Should I buy this? Should I not?
It really comes down to a few things.
We're going to talk about that very soon.
As I just kind of showed you when I opened the car for the first time,
that water line didn't seem to be very high.
We'll, again, look more in depth when I get home with it and get it off the trailer.
I have a feeling that this might have been way too good of a purchase,
even though it doesn't look that exciting.
Now, if you're wondering, if I tried to start it off camera, I didn't.
I don't want to mess with anything.
Until, again, I get it home, I'm able to go ahead and look at a lot of different things.
But I did take a look in the trunk and in the engine bay and everything like that.
I've got a pretty good feeling specifically about this car.
I almost feel bad about using it for parts, but that's what its intentions are.
Talk me out of it in the comments section below right now.
Let me know if you think maybe I should just get this car running again.
We'll figure all that out very soon.
See, the cows are very confused.
They thought I was coming home with something a little bit sportier than this thing.
They're even wondering what in the heck is going on.
Now, I don't think I showed you guys, but when I went to pick this up,
I made sure to bring two things.
And one of those things I'm going to have to probably use right now.
I brought this along right here. It's a battery jumper box.
Look, I got it on the ground right here.
And basically, this little thing right here, this is my hand.
That's the little bar. That'll jump a dead battery.
Out of every single car I've ever bought from auction,
I remember in particular, one.
One. Only one.
That actually started without a jump.
They all sit so long.
People get in them, people check them out, people leave the doors open.
The batteries all die.
I'll leave the link to this one in the description box below.
I like it because it's so small and it's got USB chargers.
You can charge all sorts of stuff on that.
And of course, I've shown you guys this.
I specifically brought this, the tire inflator, for one reason.
And that's because...
Come on. Get. Get. Come on. Come on. Come on.
Why do we have to be this close?
Wow.
So anyway, I brought the inflator for one reason.
And that was if I got the smaller trailer that I showed you earlier.
In the case that the tires were flat,
or any of the tires were flat or anything like that,
I could just pump them up.
Now you can see here how filthy everything is, obviously.
What I want to do is pop the hood.
I'm going to put this down.
This person really decided to leave all their trash in here.
This obviously is not going to go into gear
without getting some electricity on in the car.
Red on red.
Black on ground.
Now, on the side here it says boost.
And that will turn the power on to that.
Before we do that, let's see if there's any power to the car.
Keys in the ignition. We want to see if anything lights up.
Nothing.
So this is dead.
This car is dead.
Completely.
That could be electronics.
That could be the dead battery.
We'll hit this boost button.
Green light's on right there.
Okay.
Let's see if that did anything for us.
Uh-oh, guys.
Check that out.
28,389 miles.
Look at this.
Everything's working in it.
Let me get inside.
The gear is stuck.
The transmission shifter selector will not move back into neutral.
Like most cars, you turn the accessory power on,
you can move them back and forth.
This one seems stuck.
So I'm going to try and get some tools out really quick
and see if I can't get it to force into neutral
so they push it off the trailer.
So I very well might have broke something just now.
Uh, not quite sure.
But it does seem the car's rolling.
Let's see what happens here.
I made it.
It's off the truck.
Alright, so if you're wondering what I did to get it out of park,
it was stuck,
I kind of like fumbled around with this screwdriver here,
which again, you know, on nice cars,
I use plastic trim tools,
don't use screwdrivers,
but this is whatever.
Um, I took this piece off right here.
Down in there, if you can see that little white piece.
Let's see here.
I just took it and shoved it in there and just really crammed it.
Now I think I broke something here
because the car does shift now.
And, uh, but I'm not sure that any of those gears actually work.
But the real question is,
does the car start?
You can see it's blinking,
so we have signs of some odd stuff going on.
Where's the key?
Key is, uh, right here.
Putting it in, and...
