Up-close look at bells and whistles of electric cars

Well, in this week's segment of our ongoing series, Driving into the Future, Action News reporter Chad Padelli gets an uplose look at some of the bells and whistles inside electric vehicles and shows why many EV owners say they're just fun to drive. Talked to some EV owners and they rave about the acceleration of electric vehicles. We took a ride in a Tesla Model X Plaid and it was just one of the cool features in the vehicle. >> It feels like you are in a spaceship. Gordon Erns runs the Blackwood, New Jersey trade and automotive school, Penote Tech. Reluctant at first, he's now a vocal supporter of electric vehicles and his Tesla Model X with its falcon wing doors, yolked steering wheel, and acceleration 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds. >> It just it's so nice to have that acceleration to immediately be at the same speed as traffic immediately. The vehicle is equipped with cameras on all sides, which he says makes for more seamless driving. >> And you're going to see when I go to put my right blinker on, you see how it gets red cuz it's telling you a car is near. >> Everything is touchscreen from adjusting the AC to the seats or if you just want to tune in to Netflix. >> Not while you're driving though. You have to That's for when you're charging. You can watch your Netflix, you can watch your TV, you can watch a bunch of different things on on your screen here. and he doesn't even use a key to get in and out of his ride. It's all done with his cell phone. >> All you do is you're putting it in the in the drive or reverse and going and then when you get out of the car, you you're not turning anything off. You're just getting out of the car. >> As for the price of that Model X plaid car, it has a price tag approaching a h 100,000 bucks.
