SpaceX's Insane Speed to Fix Starship Massey Pad to Test again Shocked the whole industry...
After the explosive mishap with Ship 36, the Massey test site took a serious hit. SpaceX had to scramble like crazy to repair the damage and get future flights back on track.
And now, things are finally looking up. The site has been restored so well that it’s fully ready to support a cryo test for Ship 38.
So, what’s the current status of the Massey site? How exactly will SpaceX carry out cryo testing for the final Starship Block 2 prototype? And how soon could static fire testing return to this location?
Let’s dive into all of that, in today’s episode of Alpha Tech.

It’s been over 40 days since the COPV explosion on Ship 36 at Massey, an event that blew a hole in the SpaceX’s budget and pushed Flight 10 back by at least a month. Engineers warned it might take 3–4 months just to limp the site back into shape, and up to a year for a full rebuild. However, the turnaround was significantly faster than expected. Massey has now resumed operations and is conducting cryogenic tests for Ship 38, the final prototype of the Block 2 Starship series.
The reactivation went largely unnoticed. It wasn’t until around 2 AM on July 27, when Ship 38 quietly rolled out of Megabay 2, that signs of activity became clear. While many expected the vehicle to head toward Launch Pad A for static fire preparations, it was instead diverted to Massey, confirming the site’s early return to service.
The journey didn’t take long, Massey is just five miles from the production site, but because the move happened late at night, cameras failed to capture the scene. Only a few dedicated trackers picked up the shift in direction.

Even more unexpected? While standing and waiting for cryo testing to begin, SpaceX took the chance to quietly test Ship’s the PEZ door, the satellite deployment hatch used for Starlink payloads, marking a rare glimpse into pre-flight payload operations on a prototype vehicle.
At 9 am, people noticed that the PEZ door was still open, with workers climbing into the payload bay for technical checks.
Surrounding the prototype, several cranes were still in operation, a clear sign that Massey is still undergoing substantial work, including the installation of electrical systems, plumbing, and fuel lines.
