People would assume that the teacher's life is just the same cycle of events and activities.
Based from a disastrous dinner with the extended family, my auntie would brag about that the
teacher's job is to only make the students copy the notes from the blackboard, give them simple
activities and tasks, elaborate their notes, grade them, record the scores, and receive their paycheck
by the end of the month. Easy job, right? Absolutely not. Teachers have guides, written goals,
and systematic objectives for the learner's growth and competency. Teachers don't teach
just anything they can get their hands on. They have what they call a curriculum.
Let's start from the basic. The curriculum is basically a guideline for teachers to achieve
certain competency and learning needs for their future careers. As a teacher, you have your own
curriculum inside your classroom. Of course, we follow DepEd's curriculum since it is recommended.
However, we created our own curriculum to align with the student's needs and pace. Your record
book is already a curriculum. Your lesson plan is already a curriculum. Every record, every
compilation, every task you assign to your students is part of the curriculum you are implementing
inside your classroom. A teacher is a curriculist because the roles they have in implementing and
writing the curriculum. As a curriculist, the teacher knows, writes, plans, initiates, innovates,
implements, and evaluates. A job that is not easy to do. As what I said before, we have a recommended
curriculum to follow up in order to align it with the lesson plans. We can view the curriculum in
different perspectives and how we can apply it to our teaching methods. Those three are curriculum
as a content or body of knowledge, curriculum as a process, and curriculum as a product.
We have a process in making a curriculum which is helpful for the starting teachers
and curriculists. In developing a curriculum, changes and modification is important as time
goes by. To produce positive changes, the development should be purposeful, planned, and progressive.
It follows a step-by-step system in the following phases. Curriculum planning, curriculum design,
curriculum implementation, and curriculum evaluation. We have a lot of known people who
were the foundation of the curriculum development and it helped each generation to align it with
their learning and teaching styles. Especially now that we have technology, our curriculum keeps
changing and developing. This is the end of the video and as I said 3A, signing out.
