Ben looks at an absolutely beautiful french carriage clock with repeat and alarm by Abraham Louis Breget.
The exceptional quality movement of this clock has a large gilt platform with in-line lever escapement with cut bimetallic compensated balance and parachute suspension. The clever small steel square to the right side of the door operates the alarm hand. The Empire-style is exceptionally well cast and it comes with the original gilt double-ended winding key and red leather travelling box.
Originally sold on 29 August 1825 to the Hon. Mr. Agar Elis, later 1st. Baron Dover MP, for 2,400 francs.
