NOT S37! SpaceX Major Starship Plan Changed...Flight 10 Launch Date Delay!?
Flight 10 is fast approaching, marking a pivotal moment for SpaceX as teams work to ready every system for a targeted launch in early August. But with a surprise development involving Ship 38, could liftoff come even sooner?
Let’s dive into the latest on today’s episode of Great SpaceX.
The story of SpaceX’s Starbase activity is firmly focused on the comeback effort following the S36 anomaly. As we approach the roughly three-week milestone Elon Musk referenced in mid-July, all eyes are on test vehicles S37 and S38. These vehicles and their associated systems will determine whether Flight 10 can launch in early August.
Recently released schedules show that S37 has completed assembly of its engines as well as its forward and aft flap systems. Many observers assumed that S37 would be the subject of the next static fire test, based on previously released testing timelines for July 29 and 30. However, a more surprising development has emerged. A road closure schedule has been published for late on July 26 through early July 27 specifically to transport S38. Given this timeline, it now appears that S38 will undergo the initial cryogenic testing rather than S37.

That decision makes sense. SpaceX is deploying a newly built test system. Performing cryogenic testing first is a safer approach. It allows the company to validate fuel transfer systems, vehicle alignment on the test stand, the integrity of the OLM, and the connection between ground support infrastructure and the vehicle itself. If there are any issues during this process, they can be resolved before a more demanding static fire test is attempted with S37.
Although S37 may have already completed its cryogenic qualifications, it must now wait until the new test stand is confirmed reliable through S38’s cryogenic trial. This introduces a delay that could impact the intended launch timeline for Flight 10, despite early August being publicly referenced by Elon Musk and outlined in FCC documentation.

The work at Pad A is advancing at a steady pace. The new Ship test stand has been successfully mounted onto the OLM, and SpaceX has lifted and secured the Ship QD frame and its supporting pipe network. However, one critical piece remains missing—the Ship QD interface panel. This system will be crucial for the next phase and must be completed soon to allow testing to proceed without further delay.
Other ground systems also need to be reviewed and validated. It is still unclear whether the Chopsticks or a crane will be used to lift Starships into position, but either method must be fully operational before the next phase begins. The newly installed piping for the Ship QD connects directly to the existing Booster QD systems, which means both ground support structures must undergo complete checks to confirm compatibility and safety.
