Championship record SMASHED! 💫 Women's 800m Final | Bergen 2025

So in the outside lane for the women's 800m final, Kabangu. Sixth at the under-23 championships two years ago, Audrey Vero. Fourth of the world indoors, world under-20 silver medalist in 2022. National record holder up against Zodilek Kocak. Did the double as an under-20 in 1500. And they keep gold in that and then bronze in the 800m. 2023, Abigail Ives. Well under two minutes this year, setting a new personal best and looking to keep adding to her collection. Paula Höger. Second A group championships and first final for the Norwegian. And Aloyo took a bronze medal in 2023. At the European under-23 championships. That was in the 4x400m. So three in this field who have gone under the 2m barrier. And one who has gone so significantly under this year. A new national record for Audrey Vero. Well, the green card shown. Just a slight hold on this race. The championship record is 158.94. That from 2009. So Aloyo Höger, Desbolalik Ives, Cagustic, Kocak, Vero and Kabangu going in this. The final of the women's 800m. Now Audrey Vero has started very quick indeed. She's wearing that blue bib. Breaks from the outside and slots right in at the front. The tall figure in the red and the black of Switzerland who will be so well supported here. Because the Swiss fans have arrived in their number. Kocak, the other athlete in black and red, but she's representing Takie. First in the 1500m. And a gap has opened up at the front. And that's what Kocak is trying to bridge. But Vero takes a look to one side. Through 400m in 56.97. They are moving with speed. And it's being driven on by Audrey Vero who has a big gap that's opening up now. Kocak doing everything she can to close it. Kabangu moving on to the shoulder of Kocak. Abby Ives is trying to find a way round. She knows she has the pace. But that first lap was so blisteringly quick. Can anyone bridge the gap? Can Vero keep this up? 200m to go. For the woman who wears the blue bib. Fourth at the World Indoor Championships. Really creating a name for herself at senior level. And continuing to come back to these age group championships. And put out massive performances. And this surely will be one of them. Keep your eyes on the time. She's fighting all the way towards the line. A huge performance. And a huge new championship record. For Audrey Vero of Switzerland. An absolute display of perfection. In 800m racing. The dream race for the Swiss athlete. A huge performance behind. While all the focus was on what Audrey Vero would do time wise. A national under 23 record. Abigail Ives takes the bronze medal. But what a performance. Another championship record falls. Spectacular fashion. A lead like this coming into the last 100m. 800m race after that blisteringly quick. 56.97. First 400m. You really have to take a bow. A championship record. Since 2009. Of Russia. 158.94. She did such hard work in a championship like this. It's very close to that personal best. She's a Swiss national record holder. What an impressive young woman. What a night of athletics it has been. That is five championships records. On the track we have seen just this evening. She's an athlete who kept stepping up to senior level. As someone so young. And would always come back to these championships. I remember her racing at the European Indoors in 2020.
