“There is no thinker, but there are thoughts”, explains Rupert when a man asks about where our thoughts come from, and whether they come from veiled awareness – that is, the ego. Rupert continues, that thoughts can either arise on behalf of the belief or feeling of being a separate self. Or, when this belief and feeling is not present, then the thoughts will arise on behalf of the qualities that are inherent in awareness.

All thoughts ultimately come from awareness. But some category of thoughts are filtered through the belief in separation, while others thoughts arise on behalf of awareness without being filtered through this belief in separation.

For example, in relation to feelings, the nature of awareness is love. All feelings ultimately arise from love and are an expression of love. But when love is filtered through the sense of separation it can come out as hatred. However, the stuff that hatred is made of is still love, consciousness or spirit.

If there’s no sense of separation that love just expresses itself. But if it’s filtered through a thick belief and feeling of being a separate self, the same love will come out the other side of that filter as hatred and express itself as such. That is, the illusion of separation will distort the love and it will come out as hatred.

When awareness localises itself in the form of a finite mind, as an almost inevitable consequence of that localising of itself, it overlooks its infinite nature. Thus, the overlooking of its nature is not something it chooses. It is just the price it inevitably pays for localising itself as a finite mind. It sees and knows everything from the perspective of that finite mind and believes what its senses and perceptions are presenting.
